how far with the donut?

I blew out a rear tire last week on my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. I replaced with the spare "donut" stored in the trunk. I know it's only a temporary fix but what I need to know is how far I can safely go with it? I know the obvious answer is probably going to be as little as possible but because of financial restraints how far is far enough?

Don't know for sure but they seem to wear out pretty fast. Watch the tread as you would your other tires.

Are all your other tires shot? Did you ruin the one that went flat? If not, flat repair probably around $10. Used tire mounted and balanced probably $40. If you can't afford that, you can't afford to drive anyway.

What are you going to do if you happen to have another flat before you fix the last one? A whole new set of tires today will be more cost effective than a tow bill, field service, or impound fee. You can't be that broke.

It's printed on your spare tire rim. Read. Unless your sticker fell off it says. " Temporary use only in emergencies.Do not exceed 50 m.p.h. under any circumstances. Replace with proper tire A.S.A.P ". That spare tire is nylon so when you mix it with radial tires
you will be in for a very interesting ride.

a lot of peeps who garden in clay actually plant on small berms.. to increase drainage ... so siting high is not an issue... what is an issue is the words you used ... there is a proper planting depth involving the interface between the roots and the trunk .. trunks do NOT go in soil... if it is planted at the proper interface level ... no matter high or low ... it will be fine .... if the roots are exposed.. or the trunk buried... then you might have big problems .... in my sand.. i often plant in what amounts to a moat.. so i can lay down proper water ... but i ALWAYS insure that the tree is planted properly.. does that make sense?? good luck ken PS: once you dig a hole.. and loosen a large area of clay... step into the center.. and re-compact the soil structure where teh tree will sit ... so that they DO NOT SINK ... then create a cone of soil.. upon which you will spread the roots and backfill appropriately.. without compacting the surrounding clay significantly ... in other words.. plant them properly and avoid the issue in toto ..

How far is far enough for mealies

Ok, so I just set the plant in the dog run where it is all cement and where the dogs won't pee on it. It'll be happy there. Didn't know mealies could catch a ride on ants, spiders, etc. lindasewandsew, I've used dish soap/water on whiteflies, but never thought about using it on mealies. But I'd be afraid to dunk the whole thing! But then, it'd sure get rid of the ones hiding under dead leaves that I might not see. I like the idea of drowning the little critters. dellis530, I used rubbing alcohol on the tiny echeveria on my window sill several days ago and it dripped down into the soil. That must be why I haven't seen any more mealies. I thought it would kill the plant, but it must have killed anything in the soil instead. Yea! cactusmcharris, now I find out that there are different kinds of mealies!!! And some attack roots? Now that's a great reason to do a soil drench! Or dunk the whole thing in a bucket. What is a "51 bottle?" I gather that it is like a gallon of rubbbing alcohol? Since it's been years since I've had a mealy, and now I've had two plants attacked, there probably is a neighbor who has an infestation of them and they are making their way to my yard. It happens with wasps too.

I despise dining rooms that are a good distance from the kitchen, they make zero sense. That said, they do seem popular so most people must not care. Many builders here seem to slap a formal dining room right off the foyer without any regard to the location of the kitchen. I also see this a lot in many stock plan sites, frank betz comes to mind. I don't mind so much if there is a butler's pantry connecting the kitchen to DR, but otherwise I'm always muttering WTF? Like you I tend to leave the dishes until after dinner, but I dislike looking at a messy kitchen while eating. I like open floor plans though, so a truly separate dining room wouldn't work for me. I can see two solutions to this. The first would be a taller island to block the view. If I were to go this route I would probably have two island in my kitchen. One larger one that is counter height, the main prep island. The second island would be the taller one and it would be smaller and at the perimeter of the kitchen. Not only would it serve to block the view, but it would allow guests (and family members) to congregate in the kitchen without actually getting in the way. The other option I'm considering is to have a custom made hutch serve as a partition between the kitchen and DR. I'm also considering placing a fireplace between the DR and LR since I dislike the tv being the main focus. Not sure if both the hutch and fireplace dividers would work IRL, but it is something I'm mulling over. HTH!

well I can't remember the last time I ate a donut so I kinda doubt it, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying a bite. I do love sweet and savory together, my husband doesn't. We both like egg sandwiches on occasion. We are both avoiding this kind of stuff, you know come to think about it I don't think I have ever been in a Dunkin Donuts or had one, I have years ago had Krispy Kreme which was super sweet.

in my area of detroit here, people consider these temporary spares to be permanent repairs, capable of highway speed of 80 or more.

A new Donut tire can run for about 50 miles or so till you get a new tire. There not made to be driven on for long periods of time, Especially since it makes your car uneven and most the weight of the car is being driven on the donut tire and not all 4 tires and this causes alot of wear and tear on the on the donut tire. DON'T waste the tire till its done, You may need it in Emergencies. Why have to buy another Donut tire cause you wore it out driving on it.

Believe it or not, the Galant came with a tire iron, but the wrong size. Luckily we have free courtesy patrol here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and they helped me out. I'm grateful for their service but that didn't stop me from buying a 4-way lug wrench. Who tries out the tire iron at the dealership lot anyway?

In April 2011 I blew a tyre in outback NSW Australia. I replaced the 255/55R18 tyre with a donut. Due to the unavailability of this tyre I drove 1400kms to Dubbo. This included 400 kilometres of gravel roads.
