honda PAX stuff

the rims can have the support ring removed/replaced. can the rims be used on other honda cars that use the same bolt pattern? does the rim have a unique bead/lip design that cannot be used on other tires? i found a set of free rims/tires and wonder if i can reuse them on other cars if i replace the tires and take out the support ring.

found a nice video at youtube showing the removal process. i can see the rim is built different internally to support the runflat ring. the lip looks similar to standard rims but it is not the same. the current rim owner says he cannot substitute normal tires on the rims. thats why he is giving them away. 300+ for each new tire. plus mounting at the honda dealer.

With the Honda Pax system you have run flat tires on special rims, and you have an active TPMS system.
Many people are choosing to "depax" their vehicles. This can be done in a number of ways. Apparently Acura MDX wheels and tires and sensors work. He's trying to recover some of his expense of doing the depax, and you'll be hard pressed to make efficient use of them IMO.

There is a video clip on that website describing depax options for their customers.

The tire machine required for a shop to correctly service these wheels and tires costs over 10 grand. Only shops that genuinely see enough of these to justify that expense are buying it of course.

What's kind of funny to me is that the timeframe your mower (and mine an HRT2162TDA) is also the same timeframe Honda released the newly redesigned 2001 Civic and that over the few years from release, were also found to have a poorly engineered transnission. The clutch packs in the auto Civics of that vintage had very small/weak clutch packs and quite often (by Honda standards) failed after a few years. Actually the problem was so common that in the Civic/Honda consumer community it was very rare to find an owner of one that had a car with over 100k miles that still had a tranny from the factory/the one it left the plant with! I seem to be in the minority of civic owners and. HRT216 owners as I not only have a mower with the factory transmission but I also owned a 2001 Civic with ~150k miles on it and the OE transmission!!! Not too relevant or helpful but a fact some may find interesting.

For awhile I was unable to access old gardenweb topics and had pretty much given up on being able to do so. I'm so glad I tried again and I'm grateful for the wealth of information I've found. Thanks to all who contributed! I may need to replace a white rose in a spot that receives morning sun, some late afternoon sun, then dappled sun the rest of the day. I thought a hybrid musk might be nice there and have thought about Pax. It will go in beside Ivor's Rose. I don't spray. Soil is thin,dry, rocky and off the charts acidic but is heavily amended. (I can grow native rhododendrons easily.) My last couple of hybrid musks have done OK. Are there any peculiarities that make Pax different or more challenging than others of its kind?

Realize this discussion is a bit old but we are in the process of putting together an Ikea Pax wardrobe. We selected this mainly because we really liked the cool sliding doors with aluminum frames and pale green frosted glass. Fortunately our GC's crew assembled that for us--I would NOT have wanted to attempt it. Unfortunately we chose the white laminate cabinets which have the basic cheapo look of much of Ikea's lower end furniture. The "birch" (although also laminate) would have looked much nicer, especially when used with the birch innards but our architect talked us out of that as the "birch" I originally wanted would clash with the other wood details in the bedroom (!!!). The painful part is that the price would have been exactly the same. One other note: it's a bit of a pain putting together and installing the interior fittings (which we're doing ourselves) but I think it will be worth it once finished, and for the most part the cabinet is hidden when the doors are closed.

yeah, tomorrow i'll see what the redmax needs. there's something in the gas tank i think was gas at some point? lol. pulled the rope a few times and it feels good. the honda is in good shape, it looks like it was garage kept. solid deck and no pesky transmission to go bad.

i have not read why the tire wear is so poor. each assy weighs around 75lbs? the van strut is tuned to control this mass and replacing the wheels with aftermarket stuff affects the ride. shocks/springs/bushings/swaybars are all designed to work together. i wonder what an approved shop wants to remove the tire? the process pushed out the support ring which is than removed from the tire. i am thinking of just scrapping the rims since they are free.

honda wants $20/tire to dismount. discount tire wants $80 each. yes, they have the equipment to do it but it takes along time. thru the magic of youtube, i saw a video where the tech took off the tire in 2 min. maybe it was edited?
