Hello everyone I want to thank everyone for such a warm welcome :-) . I am kind of addicted to forum. Learning from you all . when I am on the computer the forums are open und in the background is Helpmefind. sunnishine - you are right about being a great place , I have learned so much and learning everyday something new . Chris - thank you I have spent many hours reading the daylily forum , I have the daylily bug too . Sherry - you are right modern technology, it can be a pain in the ... and at the same time a great joy . The world at your finger tips. or just a phone call away. I have an internation flatrate and don´t hesitate to use it . I love to share and you find what you give comes back around and usally is better. Kathy - you are right about this forum , you all got me started again roses. Rainbow - you all are wonderful and what I have learned here is priceless . Julie and Karl - you both are absoutly right about the secerets and tips . some of them you can not use word for word but a litte of this and a litte of that and you have something the works for yourself . and yes Julie the friendships that develope . I am having luch tomorrow with a that called me out of the blue and asked a question about something in the garden , and guess where i got the answer , yepp here from you all . Terry - the people here are great and after a long day in the shop I find it relaxing just to read through the forums, sometimes some of the answere are cranky or short , sometimes I just have to shake my head and laugh, we are adults and sometimes we even have bad days :-) And back to you Karl- I have wore the link to you web page out . some how I am always ending up on your webpage, and my hat goes off to you . It is like when Karl speaks everyone listens . There was a tribute to you a few montha ago and it was well deserved . Randy - it is fun to be around people that enjoy gardening , I wish I could find more here. For me the garden is relaxing and not work . in the summer I am in the garden at 4 A.M. open the shop from 10-8 and back in the garden until dark around 11 P.M. I can sleep in the winter and get things done that I have neglected over the summer . Pauline - is is not all amazing with everything that is out there , and the more I learn the more I want to know. and the more I want to share what I have learned . Judith - I will give it a try . :-) Violet and Niecey - we have had the red lily beetel 4 years now . The first year they destroyed my liles , the second year I planted Crown imperial lillies. they bloom early then the foliage attracts the beetels before real lilles have really started to grow . Then I just spay with what ever is recomended for beetels and they are under control before the real lillies are attractive for them . The crown imperial also repells rodents . They smell like sweaty feet . The first sprig as they were growing I thought oh man my feet stink but I was the crown imperials . I even took of my shoes to snell my own feet but it was not me :-) it was the Imperials . Mendocnio - the world is a better place with beaatiful gardens . I alwas take time to smell the flowwer where ever I am rosantimo- a group hug is alway good LOL first of all sorry for my Denglich ( Deutsch- Englich ) I have been here in Germany to long and second sorry for the novel . Agree with Susan and as mentioned in other threads here, there isn't only 1 right way, just some ways that are well proven to work better than others. Been doing it as a commercial business for almost 50 years now and making a good living out of it as well as for our acre or so of gardens here at home. And while I sure wouldn't use MG, especially the MG Garden Soil that says right on the bag "not for use in containers", we do: routinely clean and disinfect the greenhouses and all the equipment and containers, use heating pads and grow lights (yes, even in the greenhouse), and transplant seedlings for many very important reasons - all discussed on various forums here and supported by decades of botanical research. But there are no seed-starting police that will come to arrest you if you don't do all those things so the choice is yours. So have you been lucky? Oh, and I also forgot to mention that I have mallow and since I have enough of that, I will mail that to you and the second person if anyone in interested in what I still have after I send yours out. I'm glad my seeds will find someone to plant them because oh my gawrsh I went overboard again this year with the seeds! :-O

*sigh* Trying to ID Neo hybrids from FCBS pictures is kind of like saying "I met someone who said she was from Brisbane. I checked Facebook and I think it might be Sally G." This makes several false assumptions: a) that the person you met must be on Facebook, b) that their FB photo actually looks like them, c) that they told the truth about where they were from, and c) that that information will be included in their FB profile. I could go on, but I think you get the point. FCBS is a useful tool, but it's most useful when you see a cv. name and want to get some idea what that cv. may look like, rather than the other way around. I say "some idea" because Neos in particular are very plastic (changeable in form, coloration and markings due to growing conditions). And you always have to keep in mind one important fact: NOT EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS IS ON FCBS. Even if it's registered. Only photos that have been submitted to the site (or taken by the webmaster) are posted there. That's a lot of pictures, but it's really just the tip of the iceberg. That green patch in the center of Rick's plant is not an IDable trait, and also has nothing to do with light levels. It's simply a result of it having passed through a period of cool weather just before it bloomed. Many marmorated Neos will do that in temperate climates, giving the impression that they are banded or two-tone, or even that the cup turns green or white at anthesis (see Madame President). Grown in the tropics, however, they will be a solid speckled pattern throughout. That alone can lead to confusion. If I were to buy one of Vic Przetocki's lovely Vulkan x Avalon crosses based on the striking patterns his photos show, I would probably be very disappointed at how they looked after growing at my place for a year. What's more, if someone were to give me one of them without a cv. name after growing it in Hawaii for a while, I would be completely unable to pin down which one it was from the FCBS photo files. There are soooo many marmorated hybrids floating around out there (and so many concentrica-type cvs and carolinae-type cvs, etc.) that unless there is some very unique and consistant trait about the one you have, trying to pin it down based on a limited file of photos is an iffy proposition at best. That doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't try, just take what you find with a grain of salt. I don't mean to pick on you, Rick. You did exactly what I would have done-- search FCBS for Foster hybrids. Based on that, you can at least eliminate a lot of things, but I'm not seeing anything in either your photo or the ones that came up on the search to make me want to write a name on a tag, so I hope you won't either. That is how misidentifications get spread around, and that just makes for more confusion down the road, not less.
