CD changer - OK to leave CDs in it?

We have a new car with a 6 CD changer. I'm wondering if it harms the CDs to leave them in the changer during the day in hot weather.

This is my first car of any vintage with a CD player so I have no experience with this.

Jen, I am not sure. But I will give you my experience. I have a 1995 Black Bonneville (black cars get real hot inside) with a 10 CD changer. A couple of my favorite cd's have been in the changer since new. That will be 12 years in September. I have never noticed a problem with them. Now someone else may have a different experience than me. Maybe a different changer would have different results.

LOL Bob - I don't think you could have a stronger testimony than that! :-)

Speaking of black cars... while we were at one of the dealerships, I laid my hand on the hood of a black car next to me. It was so hot, I had to immediately remove my hand. I then put my hand on a light-colored car on the other side of me, and I could have kept it there all day. The difference was amazing. A friend who used to own a black car described it as "on fire" when she got in it on a hot day.

In my iffy ZONE - a glimmer of hope on ES blooms at last!!! My 2 ES relocated to (perhaps their best site/part-shade) in mid-Apr ... Keeping in mind George's logical summation in this thread, I promised to leave them alone & just wait patiently. I counted more than 20 broccoli-like clusters on #1 & 16 on #2 ... hurray!!! Even the couple of canes with bud clusters that poked thru the burlap covers & got frost bitten (during those 4 sub-freezing overnights, in late Apr) are doing OK albeit w/ obvious burn marks (curious to see how those 2 buds look when they open up). note: I flat/board protected them last Winter as I wanted to save their old canes ... they were greening when I opened them in Mid-Apr. - dug up & relocated. Also, took great care & got the entire root balls. I hope yours also reward, after initial disappointments!

esteban if you do have java on your pc you need to make absolutely sure you are keeping it updated to the latest version and have removed all the old versions, most of the worst infections these days are coming through java vulnerabilities. To update java go to control panel select java, open the update tab and select to update now. To make sure all old versions are removed use the free javara tool. JavaRa to make sure all of your items are updated so you are not open to infections you can scan your pc with this secunia tool. Secunia Online Software Inspector (OSI) It is extremely important to keep java, flash on all browsers and all adobe products updated.

Nicole, if you leave the money in for ten years, you would not be paying a penalty at all. The term is ten years. If you left it in you would have pretax income of about $45,000 on an initial investment of $100,000. That is a pretax income number. You only have to pay the penalty if you withdraw before the 120 month term. The APY, net of the penalty would be 0.250%, not 0.030% The risk you are taking is that deposit rates are currently about as low as they can get and will likely increase before the end of the term. Let's say this happens in two years, that means you will have invested your money for two years in an instrument with an APY of essentially 0.250%. I think it's a pretty safe bet that rates will rise, so if it were my money, I'd park it in a money market account (same bank has one for 1.10%) until I thought that deposit rates were stable and then I would buy a long term CD. Putting the money in a liquid account will allow you to maximize your earnings on the cash both now and later. But, YMMV.

Momj47...thank you for that link. And last but not least... Kathy NY...THANK YOU! I don't know how that happened, guess I just clicked on the wrong one! I did go back and look and it says the KA is 24 3/4' without door & handles and 30" with. OMG, I can't believe that I did that and I have been fretting over it and involving so many people in my dilemna. I feel horrible. But, everyone has been so nice and helpful! But, there is still this issue of 30". Our fridge now comes out 31" and it's a standard depth, so what's up with the CD only being and inch less? Black cars looks sharp when clean, but the dirt shows up on them soo quick!! Will never own a black one again!! I leave my cd's in the changer all the time. Cheers
