I never seen a good deal in slightly used cars.I know many will disagree.However I feel they get sticker shock.They think the MSRP sticker in a new car window is the price.However its not. I have friends and relatives who say they recieved a good deal on a used car.When they tell me what they paid.I almost feel sorry for them.Because they did not save much if any and get less warranty if any and less useable miles. Espeacially on small and midsize cars.You can save a bundle on an expensive model.That has a $40.000 price tag new.But I have seen people give as much for a used small car as they were bought for new.Without the warranty and with 30 to 40 thousand miles on them.Some have saved maybe $4000.00.But wheres the good deal?I would rather give $14.000 for new with no miles.Then $10.000 no warranty one third worn out.But many would think the so called good used is the better deal. My self I only buy two types of vehicals and own both.New and old near beater from a private party sale with asking prices of no more then $1500.00 Besause the certified so called OK cars I feel are a bad investment.My new ones I realise if its saids $15000.00 that means $1200.00 and if it saids $24000.00 that means $18000.00

Well,... let's see. We received delivery on the 21st, and we're quite pleased so far. I'm in love with all the storage space and options (2 crispers, a full-width deli draw, 2 fold under trays, and a 1/4 width flip tray in the fridge section. The freezer section also seems to sport more storage options and space. The little time we had with the LG got us used to not having a big box that makes ice sitting right where I might would want to sit a pot or a pan. I honestly thought I would not like GE's placing icemaker in the frige section. One of the things I liked about this LG series was that their icemaker was housed in a closed compartment attached to the inside left door, and didn't invade the fresh food area at all. But after some time with the GE, their approach wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Their icemaker is much smaller than other models with a similar approach, and like I said above, there's a 1/4 width shelf attached to it which flips up allowing storage of tall containers on the shelf under it. Nice. The unit is extremely quite, the ice/water dispenser does a much better job of filling tall/large glasses and containers, and the cool blue LED lighting is also a nice touch. It may be just me, but I would swear that the blue lights makes the inside look larger,... then again, that could just be because the GE is almost a full cubic foot larger than the LG (24.7 cu.ft. vs 25.5 cu.ft.). My ONLY concern with the GE is the poor workmanship into putting the doors together. For this model, there's just a stainless steel skin covering a regular door. They did a horrible job of wraping it with the stainless steel. There's substantial and 'in-your-face' warping in most of the door when these things leave the plant. Imagine looking into a fun house mirror,... or better yet, imagine someone bouncing a dodge ball off of the front of the regrige a couple times. After a few calls to GE, they revealed that the problem is known units being manufactured now will no longer have this problem. They have scheduled me for a repair visit where they will replace my doors with new ones. I learned that accepting a replacement frige, which is what they offered to do first, would probably result in my getting a new frige with the same problem, and that replacing the doors would have a higher probability of putting the warping door problem to sleep. Sounds like they have a stack of properly wrapped doors staged to handle this specific complaint. So yeah,... we're very happy with our selection, especially knowning the ONLY problem I have with it is being properly handled. If you like, I'll update this thread on Dec th. But the largest plus with the GE is having dual evaporators which allows the complete isolation of the fresh food and freezer sections,... they DO NOT share air between them. Few refrigerators in this price range and class can make that claim,... and the only one I know of that does, the Samsung RF267AARS/XAA, is a corporate twin to this GE model. In fact, I've read in this forum that the GE is made by Samsung. Shawn

You are such a clone to my favorite brother in law AND my father. I was raised in VWs. Old school. My dad was an obsessed mechanic who had a love of German made vehicles. He adjusted the valves on our VWs (there were two, a 62 beetle and a 64 bus) constantly. I assert that he may have been the only early VW owner who never sucked a valve. He seriously understood the early motors. My Dad insulated the crap out of our VWs (foam rubber insulation inside, coated with *something* not flammable). He installed more and needed gauges that spoke to him, whatever they said. Protection that gave way with the noise reduction. He demanded both. I spent many a night in that 1964 VW bus that was burgundy and white. Daddy had a traveling gene and a love of road maps that avoided regular routes. We almost pushed the Bus up Pike's Peak and always slept in it, (he made a homemade bed in the back of a removed seat, out of wood and foam padding. Kids slept on the two remaining seats, smallest kid straddled the front gear shift.)We often slept on the side of the road. (Hated it when we ended up near railroad tracks.) In my family, God help you if you had to turn over at night. Daddy liked his sleep and was easily disturbed. No making the car shake by turning positions and he always knew. Little biting bugs in Kansas came right through the vents. Uh ugh. We started to notice the bites almost immediately. Then there was no relief at all. I was raised with German motors. My dad and now my BIL. Been there and done that.

No great words of wisdom for you, but a couple of thoughts. For my older boys we bought the older one a subaru wrx and middle one a used saab 9-3. While they both have been amazingly trouble free, when they do need work the things that are wrong need to go the dealer and it's been expensive. In particular with the Saab - they don't sell them anymore so parts are pricey and hard to come by - some impossible. That said, son #3 now has his temps and I've decided he can only buy American or Honda or Toyota. Looking at a several year old Ford Escape with AWD - not real sexy, but safe and functional. I personally love a new car, and have leased my last two vehicles. I drive them three years and take them back! My DH is a drive to the ground guy, actually takes pride in how many miles he can get out of a car. I believe BMW includes all the maintenance on their cars so you have to factor in those fees you'll also have to pay on a different car that probably will need some work. I'd keep the BMW, cancel the collision insurance on the Jeep since it's so old, and buy the girls a decent enough car that it will last at least 6 years. I think the 2010+ Fords are all good quality, and reasonably priced. I like the Ford Fusion. I also am a huge fan of Honda Accords and Civics. You should be able to find a fairly decent one for under $10,000. Goodluck, teen drivers are not for the faint of heart.
