I've cleaned mine with the spray foam upholstery cleaner that comes in a can. Also I've used my bissle green mean machine with carpet shampoo. Since we've moved to a milder climate I haven't had the problem your talking about. Just vacumn and spot clean them now. When we lived in Michigan I started removing them in the winter and using the heavier clear vinyl mats during the winter months.

Dirt!...RoundUp bio degrades in contact with soil. I would dump a bag of compost or peat ( dry of course!!) on the carpet....leave it for about 3 days and brush out. If it doesn't work, what have you to lose? Just some carpet that you would have to remove anyhow. Linda C

Your floormats look way to small to me too. Mine go all the way up under the pedals, curve up the sides, they are quite heavy but pliable, nothing gets on the carpet in the car. The mats in my car were expensive, but this is the second SUV I've used them in, they are probably 12 (?) years old. This isn't so much snow country although we have snow today, it's rain and mud country. DH keeps similar mats in his truck, and two grown men in boots and raingear can hike in the woods all day, slog through creeks and beaver ponds, nothing wet or dirty on the truck carpets either. Truck is cleaned at the end of every work week, mats are taken out and scrubbed, hosed, on the weekends I can get in wearing either black, or white, and not have to worry about getting anything on my clothes.

Thanks amysrq. Guess I'm out of luck in getting it then. It is very nice. BTW under what section should I look for the inspiration rug on flor. I looked under area rugs, but not seeing it. sweeby - I hate the color on my walls. It is way too yellow and too strong for me. It was fine when the house was empty, but with furniture and the fabrics I want to add it just doesn't go well. Wish we had paid the builder to re-paint before moving in, but thought we could live with it.
