Could reach over and roll down the window on the passenger side while driving, without leaning over. Small! 1988 Pontiac LeMans-the car they brought back from the 60s only uglier and less durable. The first car I ever ever bought. 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse-At this time, Mitsubishi, Dodge, and Eagle (remember them?!) were in collusion, I mean had agreements, in place and Eagle made the Talon. Daddy liked my Eclipse so much he bought a Talon. 1990 Mazda Miata--you know how I feel about that one!!!! 2011-1990=21 years old. Still running strong. After bankruptcy, foreclosure, and divorce... AND it got flooded, there is no A/C (I don't care), no heater (I don't care), the driver's window doesn't crank up or down, I can pull it instead, and the radio just went out. I might fix that. I did just get a brand new convertible top and it'll likely work another three or so years. My parents owned, during my lifetime, and I rode in: '67 Jaguar XKE (CHECK THIS CAR OUT!!!!) Both guys onwed all those cars in succession. Where they deviate? After I broke up with boyfriend of eight years, he bought a Nissan Pathfinder. The one I married and stayed married to for 11 years, owned an ordinary Nissan pickup. Weird!!!!!

Hi Kal. Your a GM tech right? Worse than that we now call this system "OBD1" but it would be more correctly referred to as EEC"V" (5, but possibly IV=4). The information you provided so far is sufficient to allow a tech to pull codes, road test to confirm if any of the reported issues are current, and then start the diagnostics from there. First test KOEO (Key On Engine Off) and allow the car to report any current failures. The second test is KOER (Key On Engine Running) and again record any problems the system detects that are current. From there the routine would be something along this example. Imagine you get an EGR low flow code. Re-run the KOER test while using a lab scope on the EVRV (EGR Vacuum Regulator Valve) and "T" in a vacuum gage between the regulator and the EGR valve. The lab scope would show you the EVRV command from the PCM, and the vacuum gage would show you the result of the command on the vacuum side. Repeat testing as required as you confirm what works correctly, VS what is not working correctly. You need to do this with EACH code. You can stop short if you choose to in the possibility that some issues may overlap, but that's where the critical thinking skills really come into play. You have to be positive and be able to explain why code XXX is related to code YYY. Otherwise your only cutting down some trees to get to see the forest. Now the problem where we all fail with things like this. How do you charge for the time required to solve each issue and not get treated as if you are scamming the customer? Every other person they will ever talk to will gladly throw out their opinion about how easy this all is, and how you must have seen them coming. Oooops, sorry got off topic there for a second. VVBG. Anyway, treat each reported issue as if it is occurring on a different car until proven otherwise. Sell a given amount of diagnostic time up front, and diagnose as much as you can in that time. Then report you findings for what you completed, advise on what has not been completed, and go on from there. Once you have codes and at least some testing results, post as much information as you can and I can work the rest of the way through it with you.

Thing is, Alisande, I live in a megalopolis. There is virtually NO building land left in the county where I live, and it's home to over a half million people. That means houses sell, because they all have to live somewhere and they have to buy older homes. They all need services, they all drive cars, they all need to be educated, buy food, etc. And the economy truly seems to be booming here. I see companies advertising ON TV, begging for workers--I've never in all my life seen anything like that. And a young friend from here, just out of college, just got a job across the country earning close to $100,000/year. That's almost obscene for a first job. But, then, the county we're moving to is a little more sluggish. It's only 30 miles away, but houses are sitting a little longer there, and going for less. The one we bought, we got at a steal (222,500)--if it were in my 'other' county, right now--depending upon which town it was in, it would be selling for a minimum or $300,000--probably closer to $400,000 or more in some locations. So we were able to take advantage of the economy a bit, in buying our retirement home. The house we will be listing to sell will probably sell for at least what we paid for our new one, probably more--even though it's not nearly as nice, and doesn't have as much property. As I said, though, things can be vastly different in different areas. There are opportunities in any economic climate (buying low, selling high for us, for example). The creative and adventurous will find them and will come out the other end of this rich.
