I agree that the look of the Lacanche is incredible and certainly timeless. It did indeed make my heart pound with that "got to have it" pang at first sight. However, cooking performance is ultimately more important to me than looks (within reason of course). The few times I actually did get to talk to Art Culinaire, I engaged them in an indepth interview focused heavily on performance and they, in substance, spent a lot of time rationalizing as to how the average peformance of the LC cook surface was compensated for by look and design. I was seriously considering the then SULLY 2+2 so much so that its rough deminsions were the initial ones provided to the cabinet shop during the layout stages. As I was early in the game, BS was not even in my sights yet but, as mentioned on another post, I could never get the folks at AC to send me the info packages and color samples they promised on numerous occasions even after repeated emails and phone calls. In the interim, Bluestar did enter the picture. While certainly no match for the classic beauty of Lacanche, it became over whelmingly evident that Lacanche was, by an equal margin, no match for Bluestar's performance. My first upper end range was a Wolf with 16K burners. While it performed well enough, I was at times disappointed in its top end performance and power (once I got used to it) and Lacanche's delivered range top performance was marginally comparable with Wolf but its beauty was indeed breath taking making it a true contender. However, the LC was no match for the exceptional power delivered by Bluestar once it entered the picture so looks started to lose its luster a bit. Similar to your comments regarding the predisposed genes necessary to justify the look of Lacanche, if you do not have the same predisposition for cooking performance, then Bluestar may not be your cup of tea in that venue. My perfect solution would be Bluestar performance with Lancanche (or LeCornue for that matter) looks and styling. However, that was not available. IMHO, my Bluestar and its peer group are a handsome enough bunch and not rudimentary hunks of sheet metal. I guess in the end what turns my crank more at the end of a meal I have labored over is to hear "That was an exceptionally exquisite and perfectly prepared meal and you have a very nice range" as opposed to "That was a very nice meal and your range is exceptionally exquisite and perfect to look at." And for some of the dishes I prepare, it takes all of the power BS can deliver to achieve the results I am looking for in that dish.

This thread is surely far from its original intent. I posted my findings based on first-generation series of the W 48XX and T 98XX. Miele in now into the second-generation of this series and I have seen posts by Larsi regarding some front door/drum gasket issues, and there were some vibration concern by another; Larsi came to a resolution, and I do not know what happened to the person with the vibration issues. But to be fair to Miele the washer is a tad short of third-hundred pounds so floor construction will always be a consideration with that amount of weight. I recommend anyone buying Miele’s to purchase the extended warranty or wait until Miele is offering the extended warranty as an incentive to buy perk. Have Miele certified installers do your installation to avoid any fine-print issues (e.g., lightning strikes). From what I have learned Miele made these models for North America for several reasons: Competition was offering large capacity, and customers were inquiring about this and other features (e.g., bleach dispensing). They were losing sales to people who were turned-off or did not have access to 220V in their homes. There is no doubt that Miele stepping into this territory was stepping-out of their comfort level and their expertise with their existing products. However, I do believe Miele is making a concerted effort to better these products. Will the competition outpace Miele? That is yet to be seen. I do appreciate that Miele products are not “gimmicky.” Would anyone care to provide insights on the "quality" of the internals compared to their less expensive counterparts? This is tall order, and you really have to be at the machine while disassembling it to see how Miele has thought matters through. I can say that Miele uses highly-skilled labor to build these units as the different fasteners, and materials they secure require a deft hand. One clue to Miele’s comprehensiveness is that the back of these washers and dryers are finished similar the sides and front. In others words you can have your Miele washer dryer in the center of your room and the backs would be perfectly acceptable in an exhibition setting. On another note, the styling of these units is exceptional. It would take another long post to describe how well the styling on these units is thought-out. There are some very complex styling cues that all come together and make it look easy, but in reality that are very difficult to accomplish. Miele products remind me very much of Bang & Olufsen, and Apple.

Dawnidea, I'd love to hear what your husband knows about changes to Audi - is it the 2016's? or the 2017's? I don't know if I can tolerate this car for another year. 1929Spanish, my old BMW was a 2003 with 178k miles on it- I loved that car more than any I'd ever owned (well, except maybe my 1967 GTO that I owned in my 20's). It was still going strong, but I haul my grandson a lot and didn't want to risk being stranded someplace with him, if it did break down - it was just getting up there in miles and too risky. I am not a regretful person, but I regretted getting the new one almost immediately. I sold my old one to my handyman; I almost offered to trade him the new one to get my old one back! Cyn, I'm glad to hear you love your Audi. I had a 1973 Audi 100LS that I loved, back in the 1970's, then two different model VW's that I loved when they were made in Germany, but I quit VW when they started being made in Mexico, because my last one was not reliable. All my cars have had 150K + miles, so leasing is a new thought for me. You all have helped me. Thanks!

I have no doubt that you'll love your RR and the cooled seats are a must in your area. I used to think they were over-kill but they're in the new F-Pace S that DH just bought and I will definitely get them in my next car. His seats are black and I swear that they get hotter than my beige ones so the cooled vents help. While DH loves his Jaguar I think it's just a tad too small for my purposes and probably for yours too. He traded in his MB sedan because he wanted something that was sporty and more fun to drive. He opted for the gasoline engine because I have a diesel MB SUV and that's the one we take on trips - better mileage and much larger than his car. His car also has the gas saving feature where the engine shuts off when the car is stopped - but you can also turn that off which is what we did. I wonder if you will have that choice with your RR? My car only has 30,000 miles on it and my DDIL needs a vehicle now that they moved out of the city to the suburbs. DS offered to buy mine since it's big enough for his 2 dogs and future children. I just have to find a replacement vehicle and I'm looking at RR. We want another diesel and MB, Porsche and Audi stopped making diesels in the US. I also detest run-flats and I think I can still get real tires at LR/RR. You'll have to report back and let us know what you finally picked - and photos too. Maire
