What is wrong with this truck?

Posted by doone (My Page) on

I have a 1986 Chevy Pickup 4x4 that has some steering problems. It's very, very hard to steer and the steering wheel vibrates.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and perhaps what it would cost to fix? An estimate is just fine...just please give me a ballpark.

Thank you!

I forgot to mention that it drives as if the power steering is out. I can hardly turn the wheel.

I've done some research and this looks like the parts to a steering colum. Is there more to it? Would it require more than this?

1. Steering column assembly.
2. Steering column.
3. Intermediate shaft.
4. Universal joint.
5. Power-assisted steering system.

1986 that might be when they had a seperate belt for the power steering pump?Did you check the belt?

Go to the tire shop, have them fix your steering wheel jiggle. Ask them to check the power steering fluid.
