99 grand prix. Changed outer tierods, oxy sensor, oil. Several days later 1 coil failed. Code reader said #2 cyl was suspect. Changed plug, wire. Than found no spark. Changed coil. Runs fine. Replaced burned out bulb for speedo. Taking gauge assy out is interesting. And my kid thinks this is normal dad stuff. Any idea what these repairs would cost at shop?

More than you'd want to pay. If this was done at a dealership, expect to pay $80 to $100 per hour for labor and shop charges. I'm guessing they'd need 1 hour to change the tierod ends, 1/2 hr for the oxygen sensor and another charge if they heed to reset the engine controller for a new sensor, Diagnose the misfire and repair, 1hr, replacing the speedo lamp could range from 1/2 hour to 2 hours or more depending on accessibility. Oil change and filter at an oil change shop is about $25 to $30.

At minimun, you have 3.5 hr @ 80 per hour or $280 and $30 for the oil change and filter. Add the cost of parts. If they encounter a problem, expect a greater charge.

Now about that Speedo lamp. Did you have to remove the instrument panel? If so, you should have relamped everything while you were in there.

When I was getting my tires rotated a few years ago, they were trying to tell me my tierods needed to be replaced and were asking me to pay about $500 for parts & labor. I thought that was high and, although it didn't really need to be done, I called a couple places and got 2 quotes for around half of that. I've never been back to that place (and my tierods are still doing fine!) Not all women are ignorant about cars and this really made me mad!! Anyway, that part of what you did would have been at least $250. Your kid is very lucky to have you, and hopefully interested in learning what you know. Well done!

My shower door fell off! It is a corner shower where the door swings out from the two side panels. It has a metal frame. The door was held in place by a top and bottom small L-shaped piece that is screwed into a a long hinge (like a piano hinge?). The top L-piece is gone (looks like the screw was stripped) and I can't seem to find a replacement. Neither the local hardware store or Home Depot carries such a piece. A local glass place that sells and installs shower doors indicated that I would have a difficult time finding such a piece. I really don't want to have to replace the whole glass shower at this time! Any suggestions on where to find my missing piece (and yes I looked all over the bathroom for it!). I've searched some internet sites, but can't seem to find the right thing. Thanks!

I don't find a model SDGG2606AWW, but I do find SDG2606AWW. Gas dryers are outside my experience, but a non-heat situation when the unit still otherwise runs probably is related to the gas burner. Could be a bad igniter, flame sensor, or gas valve. There are two different burner assemblies for this model, depending on whether the unit in question is Series 16 or not. Parts are available for both types. Dryers are much more mechanically simple than washers, although gas models are a little more complex than electric. I would have it repaired.

How old are the units again? I realize that you do not want to replace all of them, but more often than not, the condition of one is indicative of the condition (or impending condition) of the rest. In this case, it is not like this unit was behind a tree, bush, or subjected to any more weather or moisture than was likely experienced by the other units. Might be time for a careful inspection of the remaining units and look at the project, unfortunately, in more totality. This is not the rule, just an observation. Hopefully the other units are just fine at the end of the day.

There are beams exposed on a load bearing wall and on the ceiling below the attic. No, those are not 'beams'. The 2 x4 on the ceiling is the top plate of the wall you deconstructed. The 2 x 4's on the walls are there to attach the demolished walls to the other framing. Those 2 x 4's get removed and then you proceed with repairs. The old drywall/ plaster gets cut back to studs & joists so larger pieces of new drywall can be fastened & the seams finished. (Removing those two bys with all the nails in them has nothing to do with the structural integrity of the bldg.) If it is possible to find a pro drywaller to take on such a small job, latch onto 'em. But in the real world, you may be on your own and have to repair it yourself. **ETA, I hope you carefully removed the old baseboard from the closet walls and laid them aside. You'll need those pieces to splice into the other existing base (to avoid having to try to find a match or, worse yet, having to replace all of the base in the room.)

I am having a problem with my 06 GP with 45k miles. It feels like a popping or a clicking when turning at low speeds. I don't have any problems at higher speeds or when driving straight. Any ideas what this might be? I appreciate any help.

Clicking when turning is usually CV joint. Remaned axles are pretty cheap.
The gauge cluster comes out with 2 screws. Yes I changed all "illuminate" bulbs. Clear bulb but red dash light. Must be a reddish film I cannot see. Maf died last year. I changed that too. Charged kid usual dad price.
