Since you damaged you rear quarter panel and a backup lamp, I don't think that your vehicles met square on, but maybe corner to corner. (How else would the quarter panel have been damaged.) The truck may not have been in the view cone of the backup sensor, but should have been visible in a rear view mirror. The Jeep Cherokee has decent ourside rear view mirrors.

I too have the "burn at the stake" one. I must have forty or so accumulated over time (and I'm talking about around 8 years) in an envelope in my glove compartment. People give me stickers fairly often - I keep the ones I like best and pass along others - and they're not exactly expensive investments. The ones from the Northern Sun catalog are the priciest ones I ever buy at $2. Allison, although there is a risk of theft, you can mount a regular sticker on the very thin magnetic sheets from any craft store. I saw one today that made me rather sad: "War does not define who is right. It only defines who is left." (As in left alive.) So true, and I wish it weren't. However, I don't care to put any kind of advertising stickers on my car, just like I don't wear clothes with brand or store names splashed across them. (I do like to wear kooky t-shirts, I'll admit it, because I think it's fun to make people do a double-take. My favorite is worn to tatters - reads "give me that old-time religion" with a drawing of people dancing around Stonehenge. LOL) I figure if a business wants me or my car to be a billboard they can dang well pay me for it.

I live in basketball country, and there is dead serious rivalry between the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. Some years ago U of L won the NCAA championship, and I saw a bumper sticker that said, "First in the Nation; Second in the State." Another one I liked that I saw while inching my way to work in several inches of snow said, "Wouldn't you rather be riding a mule on Molokai?"

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee that has given me good service. It has the 4.0 liter in-line 6 cyl engine rated at 190 hp; Automatic transmission, 4 speed with torque converter lock-up clutch. The engine and transmission is yet good. It is aging out due to too many winters in road salt. Holes have appeared in the rocker panel. The remainder of the body is good. There has been a few electrical circuit losses in the body wiring due to corrosion, namely the fog lamps below the bumper and the washer pump for the rear window. It is stiffly sprung and jarring over bumps and railroad tracks. Fuel mileage is not good compared to modern offerings, but not bad for 190 hp. It gets about 19 mi/gal on the average and maybe 20 mi/gal at steady freeway speeds. Gas mileage does improve when touring on roads limited to 55 mph. The ride is stiff - keeps you awake on long road trips. Interior noise is a bit too much for long trips. Its a driver's machine. For long trips, there are plenty of other offerings that are more comfortable with better mileage, but still, there is something about this thing that I like. My model has the 3-mode transfer case: part time, full time, and gear reduction. Its a great vehicle for snow, but the heater output could be better. In winter, it never gets really hot unless it is loaded. The cooling system has two fans: the bigger one is electric an only comes on if the coolant goes above a set point or the air-conditioner is turned on. The second fan is smaller an belt driven with a viscous drive. When the coolant is cool, the fan idles at low slip speed and increases as the unit get hotter. Under normal driving conditions, this fan is enough. It is fully gauged: volts, fuel, temperature, oil pressure, speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, and turn signal indicators. Optional equipment is an overhead display that can display, among other things, outside temperature and 8-point compass directions. The radio has very good sound.
