Cost for total suspension

I am in the process of changing the entire suspension on my 93 plymouth sundance(it's in good shape) Putting in cargo coils in the back, new shocks, new strut shocks, boots etc. What am I looking at? Less than $1000.00? I was just going to use regular after market stuff.

I would say you are looking at somewhere around $1200.00. I have a Mercedes Benz 300E and the quote for all four shocks installed plus an alinement is $980.00.

You may find a lower price, perhaps your regular mechanic can do it cheaper than a tire shop. You can also look into buying the struts, shocks and boots from an online parts warehouse and have the mechanic install them.

I know that the quoted price for the shocks at the tire shop was nearly double what high end shocks would be bought online.

Actually on a car like the an old Sundance, this is likely under $1000.

The key points are:

Find someone good, pay him correctly to do the job right. Fair is always a two way street, and one thing can not be said enough. "paroseman" the quote "You can also look into buying the struts, shocks and boots from an online parts warehouse and have the mechanic install them." That is actually a poor practice. The better shops and techs will actually turn a person away at the door if they attempt to do that. Again "Fair" is always a two way street, and trying to make the shop operate under priced, which means the loss of the GP from the parts sale isn't fair. Shop labor rates are designed to expect an inclusive parts gross profit per hour. Without the parts profit the labor rate is way too low for the business to thrive. If you want to carry parts in the shops labor rate would actually need to be 2-3 times higher!

tncraft, our builder ran a cost elemental breakout of the different costs estimated in our build before we even signed with him. His breakout included everything like permits, utility hookup, and the normal building costs. The only thing not included were what costs were associated with the loan (lawyer fee, appraisals, closing costs) and our insurance on the property/building progress, but the mortgage company provided us with our closing costs when we applied for and were approved for our construction/permanent loan. Our total loan will include all building costs and closing costs minus our down payment. We also budgeted (on our own) a certain amount to buy things not covered in the build like plantation shutters and blinds, linens for the extra baths, rooms we want to furnish a certain way (we are piecing together as we go) and small pot for miscellaneous extras like second set of power/water/gas bills for the new property (we are currently renting). We have some wiggle room for unexpected items in our mortgage for added expenses. Thank goodness we do because we have just broke ground 2-1-12 and already $8500 over on site prep due to some drainage issues (spoken about on another thread). Because we didn't "max-out" we have room for some extras, but we are going to still cut in some other areas in order to off-set our overages. I'm not sure if I helped or just rambled, but I know there are many knowledgeable people on here who will respond soon! :-)

Dried in is 50% of the blow your mind budget that your professional General Contractor will give you, after your Architect Designs and Specifies what the General will give you a quote to Build. No one can give costs to an imaginary structure. Just market trends. Like a verrry rough psf of $250-$450. Lot purchase. Design. Estimate. Redesign. Reestimate. Permit. Build. Keep Building. Out of Money. Must be Done.

Patios are generally just slabs on grade without footings. You will need footings to be excavated and poured to properly support the bearing walls of a structure. You will need to have a plan to tie into the existing structure's walls and roof and to do so in a somewhat pleasing manner, certainly in a weatherproof manner. You will need windows that aesthetically work with the original house, as well as interior closet doors, trim, and other closely matching finishes. If your panel has room, you will need to have electrical run to the room, and it will need to be the new bedroom compliant circuits. If your electrical panel is full, you will need to upgrade your panel. You must account for HVAC. You will need to file a plan with your municipality and get a permit and have inspections. All of these things are simple for someone who is an experienced DIYer or a experienced contractor. You are obviously not an experieced DIYer and will have to pay the labor of a contractor for this job. In my low cost labor area of the country, such a job would run right around 15-20K for everything that is needed to do the job properly as long as the tie in to the older house was fairly simple.

Total cost of interior doors?

We purchased 12 interior doors in October 2018. Solid wood, shaker, square top, pre-hung, I don't recall (and cannot tell from the invoice if they were bare wood or primed). Price: $183.95 each. Total with tax: $2,398.17. Purchased from local lumber company. The drywall people/painters installed the doors, including hardware. I can't remember the exact amount, but at first it was significantly higher than a Lowes or Home Depot install, and when we pointed that out, they came down to whatever the install amount would have been from a big box. So add that amount, whatever it is for you locally, to the $2,398.17, plus door levers (we purchased those separately, I believe it was around $500 total for door levers (about half locking, half closet). The paint job was phenomenal and was included with their quote for our whole interior paint.

Yeah, I agree. You're better off letting your mechanic sell you the part. When my honda needed shocks, I was tempted to buy them online (much cheaper), but when I called around. Some shops didn't even want the job while others wanted to charge big$$ for the job and no warranty.

I buy the part myself if its a DIY job. Otherwise, I just take the car to my mechanic.

Ended up costing $780. That included front/back cargo coils, new shocks, alignment, and the shock covers? and labour. I was happy with the work done, car feels great and can hold a good load!

Yes Shock covers. They help keep road splash off of the shock shaft seals and prolong their life. I'm glad you got this done and are pleased with the result.
