$800 to fix a speedometer?!?!

Hi Everyone,

I have a 98 ford ranger. Speedometer hasn't worked since my hubby wrecked the truck some years back. It was fully repaired and looks pristine except for the faulty speedometer. The mechanic said it was going to be $800 because the whole console has to replaced? I am very upset about this. Does this sound totally off or what? Maybe that's truly what it costs to fix it. I don't know. PLEASE reply. Would love to hear your comments.

Thanks,

RM

The cost likely has alot to do with removing so much while removing the speedometer. My Italian motorcycles speedometer costs just under $1000.00 to replace and nothing has to be moved to replace it.
