help!! can't remove pulley from water pump

I can't figure out how to remove the pulley from my water pump. FYI. Car is 1988 Olds Delta 88 (3800 V6 engine).

There are 4 small pulley bolts on the face of the wheel. I remove those, no problem. Then the instructions say something about removing a long bolt via a access hole.

I see the access hole, but have no idea how to remove the bolt. In fact, I can't even see the bolt! This hole is only about 3/16" in diameter.

I assume that your car has front wheel drive.

Look at the right front fender. Does it have a flexible or removable flap/panel? If so, your job will be easier if you access the pump through this opening. You will need to remove the front wheel.

Begin jacking up the car. Before all the weight of the car has been taken off the wheel, loosen, but do not remove the lug nuts. Finish raising the car and support the car on jack stand(s). Remove the wheel and access panel. Continue with changing the pump.

Exercise caution. The car must be firmly supported. Do not take shortcuts or chances.

It sort of looks like the my broken pump. What doesn't look right are the two prongs sticking out of the side and the plug isn't flat like mine. Plus it the specs doesn't say it's a low voltage 12 volt pump. I'm thinking Rio doesn't make low voltage pumps any longer. I spent an hour looking on the web and could only find one internet site that carried a different brand of 12 volt pumps, so I ordered it. I don't do too much filtering and can't help re total volume, I guess I don't even understand what or how a 'bubble pump' would filter, but I can help with the connection. You can find almost anything you might need at a hardware store, or Lowes/Home Depot although perhaps not completely together. The issue you didn't mention is controling the flow to the spitter. After the T you will need a shut off valve on the way to the spitter that you will turn part way off until flow is correct. The pump connections will depend on your pump/ waterfall, and spitter locations. That wasn't clear. Presumably this is all flexable tubing and if so then you will just need a connector with female thread to 3/4 barbed tubing fitting. These are usually found near the pvc pipe and fitting section. You will also find 3/4 tubing T fittings there too. These tubing fittings get jammed into the tubing. Usually you warm the tubing in hot water to make it soft enough to push the fitting in. You will probably need extra and different fittings to connect the shut off to the tubing. If you already have a shut off in the spitter line then neverrr mind.

Thanks for coming back. Sorry for your troubles. Always advise cheap/easy attempt first. Sorry didn't work. Your plumber has handled this countless times before. Quick/easy for him plus a little more expense for you. When he's done, suggest floodcheck hoses for your connection. Link below. Get the gooseneck connectors, too. Well you already did the trick the Hayward rep told us. Open the trap first. Alot of pro's were perplexed by that one. Must have seemed too simple.Lid open and lock ring free it should come open. If it was full of water I would say bump it on and off real quick, but not dry. It could mess up the impeller and diffuser. A small screw driver perhaps , but be careful not to scratch up the seal plate, or it will never seal again. Good luck.

You pulled the four little bolts, and the pulley won't come off? It's likely seized to the hub with rust. Try some heat around the hub flange, then tap or pry a little on the pulley. Don't force it so hard that you bend it!. Another trick is heat it, then dump water onto it to rapidly cool it. Try tapping and/or prying again. Then heat and cool it again. This usually causes the rust to break apart and let go.

yep, I pulled the 4 little bolts and gave it a few taps with a hammer. Tried pulling it off, but she won't give.
Anyway, I was able to work around it today, but sooner or later I'll have to change the water pump. I'll keep your tricks in mind.
