How much does it typically cost to replace a timing belt on a 97 Acura TL 3.2? I took it to the dealer for some other work, and they told me it costs around $1000. Friends told me they must be crazy. I'm just looking for some insight.

I agree. Most of the time, you replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt. I just had this done on my '98 Acura CL 3.0 and it was in that ballpark, at an independent shop. Steve

On older cars it is not as much but the newer cars are built so that half of the parts under the hood have to come out. 1995 Pontiac Grand Am water pump replacement, $847.00. If the belt breaks it will make $1000.00 look cheap.
