Problem with remote starter

I had a remote starter (AS-1780) installed on my 2014 Kia Forte about a month ago. It worked perfectly until today. Now when I use the remote starter, the car starts and runs for anywhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. Then it turns off and starts again two more times. It was set to run for 15 minutes before shutting off.

Also, if I get in the car after using the remote start, put the key in the ignition, and turn it to "on", the car shuts off when I touch the brake to shift gears.

Just started doing this today and I've spent hours trying to figure out why but can't find a solution. I've had other remote starters and have always been able to find a fix. This one has me stumped.

Hoping someone here has some thoughts on what might be causing this. Any help would be appreciated.

On page 17 of the manual in the link below, it states that after entering the car and depressing and releasing the brake pedal the emgine/remote start will turn off.

I would go back to who ever installed it and have them re-program it. If they can't then there is a problem with the unit or the installation. Let them fix it. These aftermarket remote starter are only as good as the installer. And in some case they create all kind of electrical problems because the installer didn't do a good job.

Most seed packets for curcurbits (squash, pumpkins, cucumbers, melons, etc) say to start seeds 3-4 weeks before planting them outside. We also know that cucurbits are more sensitive than other plants (such as tomatoes or peppers) to staying in their pots too long, so I would err on the side of LESS time in pots. They don't like their roots disturbed, so you don't want them to get too many roots in the pots. Tomatoes don't mind having their roots disturbed as much, because they love growing new roots. I plan to start my curcurbits this coming weekend (May 15), and then plant them in 2 weeks on Memorial Day weekend. If I don't get them in then because the weather is crappy, it will be okay, because they can hang out for a week or two in their pots without trouble. But I definitely wouldn't want to go longer than that.

Graphite dry lube would be the best as suggested by Sax , since it will not leave residue which will attract dirt / dust . Actually if you go to a local jobber Molybdenum Disulfide Spray will do a very good job within this requirement . I used quite often back in my younger days when Dirt Bike Racing for Chain Lubrication . It goes on wet and via capillary action creeps into any pore or crevice and then drys completely leaving a well lubricated component without any tacky film .

One thing i need to point out: NEVER USE A CAR BATTERY TO JUMP START A RIDING MOWER BATTERY! sorry for the caps but i have seen this on several differernt topics now. lets compare a battery to a balloon: if you fill the balloon with water from the kitchen sink, it fills up nice and easy, now try filling the ballon from a fire hose. a car battery is 550 cold cranking amps and higher whereas most lawn mower batterys are approx 250 CCA. I do agree with Walt on checking the starter with a jumper cable from positive on the mower battery to the post on the starter. if it spins, the battery and starter are good. when you turn the key to the start position, do you here a click? if so, it is probably a ground issue between the engine and the frame. if not, it is a wiring issue.

Before condemning the starter, let me ask: Have you physically checked the GROUND cable (battery negative) where it connects to the frame (or the engine in some cases) to be certain that the trouble is not just a loose or corroded ground attachment point? People often omit to check the ground side of the battery cable, but the ground is equally important as the "hot side". And, if the battery negative cable connects to the frame, you also must check the engine mounting bolts that fasten the engine to the frame, loose fasteners here can cause grounding problems too. 14 gauge wire????? that is far too small to run the starter, but it should have at least produced some sparks when you jumped it as you described (IF.....everything else was good). Your trouble sounds more like it is a problem with low voltage or a bad ground. If all else was good (except the starter) you should be hear the solenoid activate but without the starter turning.

Thanks for the reply jemdandy but the manual you link to isn't for the model of starter I have and as far as I'm aware, all starters have the brake as the kill feature. However, this shouldn't be the case once the key has been inserted into the ignition and turned to the "on" position. Obviously you need to press the brake to shift out of park.

I'm trying to get the installer to have a look at it but I was hoping someone might be familiar with the starter model I have and be able to offer some suggestions.
