2006 Pontiac grand prix

I need to know if this 2006 Pontiac grand prix is awesome. or it has mechanical problems? The reason is i want to buy this car. So any advice would be helpful!!

What consumer reports has to say:
The Grand Prix is a mediocre sedan. Its ride, level of refinement, and rear-seat comfort isn't competitive. The 3.8-liter, 200-hp V6 in our test car was responsive but rough and noisy. The GT model features a supercharged 3.8-liter, 260-hp V6. The GXP has an even more powerful V8 that shuts off four cylinders when cruising. The ride is very stiff and braking is only adequate. The coupe-like styling limits visibility and access. The low roofline limits head room. The rear seats are very cramped and lack thigh support. Reliability of all versions has been average of late.

For the most part the 2006 model seems to do ok on all tests, lot of grades in the Very good to Excellent range. Transmission and electrical were only good.

Earlier models faired very poor, but starting in 2004, the scores were on the upward!!

My sister has a 2005, bought it used and they have had nothing but problems with the electrical side!! Cheers

we have owned 4 GP's in the last 6yrs. we like them. It should have a warranty for being 1yr old. In 3 yrs it will be worth 1/2 what you payed, if your lucky. what age car do you have now? are you used to fixing an older car or do you have a newer car with a warranty now?

"Last time I saw a vacuum guage was in my Dad's '64 Grand Prix!" Yes, show me any new single cyl. 14 hp gas LT/GT today, that will at idle, drag a 3000+ lb car, with no front wheels on it, easily as one of these old tractors. No, in no way to they compare to the comfort, or creature comforts built into todays machines, but i for one, if i want comfort, ill drive a car, it all about toughness in machinery to me. And hope no one gets their dander up cause i say this, i know newer stuff can be bought that is as tough , and usually do more diverse work, but when you throw in the nostalgia of old iron, and how simple, and how tough they were, its so much fun to use them

The timing cover is the "front part" of the engine which is on the passengers side of your car. The front of the engine is always described as if the car was a rear wheel drive, and the engine in-line with the center line of the car. Now as far as the timing cover leaking and its relationship to the water pump, the water pump bolts to the timing cover, which in turn is bolted to the engine. The timing cover gasket is known to leak, but unfortunately the intake gasket when it fails commonly allows coolant to run outside of the engine down across the seam between the engine block and the timing cover making it almost impossible to identify that second leak. Recently I had to inform a customer of the potential for his timing cover to be leaking in a Pontiac Montana with a 3.4l. His intake gasket was leaking, but streaking from the front of the engine suggested that it was very likely that there were two leaks at play. We fixed the intake gasket problem, and now are still watching it to see if we have to do the other gasket. We still haven't proven the second leak in his case, but at least I was able to caution him in advance.

this design motor routes the coolant thru the alternator mounting bracket using these coolant elbows. you do not have to remove the bracket to change the waterpump but it makes it much easier. there is a small chance whoever changed your waterpupmp may not of removed the bracket. maybe the elbow was good to begin with and the elbow is now cracked and leaking. hard to say. but its a good place to start.
