Oil filter

I see Walmart has the cartridge style oil filters for some cars. Like the 2.2 Saturn ecotec motor but NOT the 3.0 motor. I reckon there are few 3.0 Saturn motors on the road. But Walmart got rid of their house brand filters anyway so all they carry now is fram and they charge the same price as oreilly or autozone. No money to be made in auto parts. Gotta sell flat panel tv's I guess.

oil pan bolt has a female torx drive. t-45. and i have a 40 and 50. time to buy a 45 bit or get a hex head bolt for oil pan. filter cap came off easily. the filter cartridge body is bolted to oil filter bracket or side of engine block. i cannot really tell but it has been known to loosen and leak at o-ring seal. but luckily it came loose as designed. u can remove housing and install a threaded coupler and than use a standard metal shell oil filter. pf-47 or typical GM filters.

Typically, if the oil filter is optional, they'll show an optional sump and/or OF cover plate. The IPL for your engine shows an OF as "standard"? I'd say get the nipple and install a filter. After a few minutes running, the filter should get hot if the oil is circulating. Hum, I've used Fram after-market oil filters for years. I don't know how long they've been in business, but I've been changing my own oil for about 50 years. Never seen anything like mentioned on the opening of this thread. I did have a Sears filter with a bad weld which caused the filter to leak, leak a lot meainging I saw it on checking on the start-up after the change. I have run some engines for 200,000 miles on Fram, or similar filters and have had no problems. I have used Castrol oil most of the time for the past 35 years. I think it is one of the better oils. I don't have any proof other than the results I've already mentioned.

Looking up that number on the WIX site shows a 57890. That would convert to a NAPA Gold 7890 or a Car Quest Premium 85890. It appears to be a "short version" of the Kawasaki filters, so if you can use a filter that's about an ,8" longer, a NAPA 1394 would work. IF a 1.3" longer filter will fit, NAPA 1396.
