I have a 1989 Ford Escort want to sell to someone on my job. It has 100,000 miles on it. I don 't know whats the going price for a car this old. Please help. I'm a female and know little about selling cars.

Your car does not show up in the gold book. Too old.
That basicly says the car is worth nothing. Wholesale $50.00. If it is in VERY good shape it might bring $200.00.
With your mileage maybe $250.00. If it drives i'd give you
$100.00. Ford Escort is a disposable car. Drive it and throw it away.

RE: Wanna Sell

The old adage of "It's worth what you can get out of it" applies. We cannot see the overall condition of the car, it could be next to trash, it may have five or more years of service left in it. Price it accordingly.

RE: Wanna Sell

On the contrary, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, especially if it's in working order and how likely to pass inspection, etc. Running car? I don't care what the book value says for a really old car. My sale price would start around $500 for an old working car in decent condition and go up and down from there, depending on major problems (eg, no a/c,) BTW, low-ball offers can always go somewhere else.

On the other hand, if you just want to get rid of it, no hassles, and be done with it now, that's another story. Then sell it for a few hundred and be done with it. Its' fair.

Also, instead of looking at book value, you can open the paper's classifieds and see what folks are asking for similar cars. It won't be exact, but it will give you a good idea of "fair".

RE: Wanna Sell

Depends on what your looking for and what the price will
bring and where you sell it. Prime example. There is a site that has a 69 G.T.X. for sale. Basket case. Not the right motor and in hundreds of pieces. They want $16,500.00
I can go down to MN. and get the same car fully restored
and drive it home for $18,000.00. People are nuts. They see old cars on Berrett Jacksons and think their cars are
worth millions. Most are junk.

RE: Wanna Sell

Whatever you can get for it works.

From a KBB link which does list 1989's...

RE: Wanna Sell

I've sold a few old crocks in my time. Once they are over 10 years old they are old shaggers and worth little more than the fuel in the tank and the tax on the screen. Once in a while you may get some gullible old sod who will pay over the odds because the car is washed, waxed and hoovered. But it is still an old shagger that will be worth bugger all once the shine has faded and there is fag-ash on the carpet. A turd can't be polished. A jalopy is a jalopy and it won't be anything special unless it becomes a classic and that only happens to certain models.

RE: Wanna Sell

Need more details but NADA shows low retail at $1150, high retail $2600. BTW, 100k miles isn't as bad a thing as it used to be.
