Chelone, how are you and your DM? Haven't seen you posting much over the past few months, so hope that all is well.

Hi Chelone,

I recall when you were taking time away for yourself & also have wondered how you were. Wasn't your brother helping out for a while?
Now I realize I experienced burnout last year when I was still working w/Seniors & caring for my Mom altho' she was in a Foster Home. She passed away last August a month after my Father's death & I'm just now getting myself back to where I want to work & serve again.

I'm here, goin' through the motions. I do what I have to do and things are OK. Mum did return and she left again and now is about to return, make sense?!

While she was gone we "rehabbed" her bathroom. New floor (over painted concrete!), new wall and ceiling color (to matcher bedroom), new bathmat and towels, more shelving and towel racks in more carefully selected sites.

I am to pick her up on Saturday and I'll be interested to see her reaction to the changes... I worry that she won't "notice"... indication of deteriorating mental faculties.

I bought her two new pair of slacks and some matching tops... reminds me to buy matching SOCKS, too. (matching socks are important to her).

To anyone planning on purchasing or moving turtleheads, I thought I'd share this from another member on GardenWeb: COMPANION PLANTING An interesting observation was made by gardencommando concerning a possible deterrent effect of Chelone on the beetle. "this summer we were totally infested with the red Lily Beetle. After reading up on the subject, I used the simple drowning them idea, but modified the mix a little - amonia with dish soap. Although I stalked and killed hundreds of the horrid things, I suffered heavy damage to all the lilies except 1. The one an only difference that I could find is: the completely undamaged lily has a Turtle head planted on each side of it. I checked on the toxity of Chelone and although it seems to not be edible it says nothing about repelling pests." Personally, I plan on planting mine on either side of my fritallaria where I spotted beetles last spring and am planning to wage an all-out war against any babies this spring:)

Just so you know, if there are any pink chelones near the seed-bearing white, you'll get probably solid pinks from the seed, though there could be gradations. The best way to get a white, is buy a white plant or divide one.

It grows wild up North in swampy areas (with sedges and ferns and such). I like chelone for it's shiny leaves. Looks a bit like foxglove flower wise.

Anyone have this plant ? What’s your experience with it. I have one next to gutter and one next to my sump pump outflow. Two areas that stay wet longer in my yard. I don’t have any areas that are consistently wet which is where I believe this plant would thrive.

HI Chelone......Glad you got that little break. But you "sound" tired. Sometimes the every-day wears you to the point that the crises are hard to deal with!
