Home care vs Hospice care
Comments (17)HOME HEALTH CARE - this is a service that can also be provided by a home health care agency AND PAID FOR BY MEDICARE....Mom had that for several years, however, it is very limited in what they provide. When she had that level (home health care paid for by Medicare) she was still able to get around with a Scooter, feed herself, use the toilet; as her abilities declined and after a ten day hospitalization with massive bladder, kidney and lung infections, her urologist stated that we needed to consider Hospice care. I contacted the agency we use (Heartland) to ask what the requirements were....did it mean six months to live? They told me NO, you needed to have an incurable condition - they told me they had folks who had been clients for more than five years. I am in Texas - you may find it different in your state, but Medicare did pay for home health services for several years prior to hospice; the rules may have changed on home health care since she has gone to hospice. If you have a loved one needing more care than the family can provide, your best bet is to simply call one of the agencies in your area that provide HOME HEALTH CARE and HOSPICE CARE. Ask them what qualifications you need to be accepted. Once you know if you qualify for either one, then ask them what the regulations are regarding care....that is your best bet. Does anyone have the timetable for when I am allowed to have my nervous breakdown?...See MoreLive In Caregiver having to give up bed for visiting family
Comments (4)Might have to talk to clients dr. & have the dr. tell family it is too disruptive. Are they at the house all the time or off running around(interested in mom's welfare or free lodging so they can run around town) I can see concerned daughter coming to be sure mom is well taken care of but this doesn't sound much like it. Do the relatives come & buy groceries, make out checks, take mom to dr. etc. If they aren't doing any of that, dr should know to stop the disruption! If they are than more difficult to deal with them, doesn't someone have power of attorney?...See Moredon't care about second bedroom but care about losing a closet
Comments (10)So I went back to the condo today with a realtor. I think I could definitely live with the 2nd bedroom now. I would make it into a study. I was disappointed that there is no washer/dryer in the unit but it is right next to the apartment. Of course, that means there would always be folks outside my door. It was on the 20th floor so it had a great view but I was a little weirded out being on a balcony that high up. I was also curious about the windows. They looked old to me and in one window the seal was broken (foggy). I have no idea if/when that would be fixed in a high rise condo. Also, what kind of assessment would that be? It would have to just pots and pots of money. There is now an offer on the place (not mine) but now I know I could live there--preferably on a lower floor. The condo comes with doorman, concierge, gym, pool, dry cleaners and restaurant. It is close to the museum, the main library, and other amenities. Then, I looked at another building in a different area of the city. This building did not have garage parking--I would have to pay 300-400 per month to park. The apartments and the building were in much better condition but of course, the price was higher. This was a one bedroom but I really liked it! So much to consider....See MoreNeed Help with 2 Layouts: Memory Care and Assisted Living Units!
Comments (13)It will be much easier on you all once the moves have been made. In most units, there's exactly one possible place for the bed and one place for the tv (opposite the bed). Everything else fits around them. A small desk can serve as a nightstand. A chair that pulls out into a bed may fit in the memory care room. A recliner would be nice for your father. A bistro-size table with two chairs will provide a place for guests to sit for your father's room. Be prepared to replace the pull out chair and the recliner with sturdy arm chairs that are easy to get out of in a few months or years as needs change. Slip covers are very useful. If slip covers aren't going to fit, choose washable fabrics on removable seat cushions (check the cleaning code on the label). BTW, many places expect new residents to provide laundry hampers that are picked up by the staff and washable wastebaskets for main room and bathroom....See Morecarrie630
