Something good must have happened!

Sunday was Father's Day, something good must have happened, it always does, on this day! We got Al out 3 times! it's a record! tell us something nice that happened, we all need it! debbie

Something nice did happen for me...I finally took a big step forward. I asked my sister to take my mom overnight and she did. She picked mom up Saturday around 4p. My DH and I went out for a very nice dinner and had the evening and most of Sunday to ourselves, something we haven't had in 7 months. My mom did great...no problems whatsover! I have been so concerned about doing this, because her doctor warned me about having her sleep anywhere but home...because of the AD, which can sometimes really set off a bad state of confusion, agitation, sleepless night, etc. None of that happened. I sent along mom's pillow, and her clock radio (that she listens to before going to sleep). I also wrote a two page note to my sister telling her mom's usual schedule, what she needs help with, etc. We couldn't have asked for it to work any better. When we got to my sister's yesterday afternoon, mom was all smiles and asked how our evening was. She never once complained or tried to make me feel guilty...unbelievable...
Now, for the "bad" news...nothing to do with mom...I was playing with one of our dogs Thurs night...he's a beautiful Golden Retriever, almost 2 years old with TONS of energy. He loves to play tug of war with his tug toys and we were playing, as usual....he's very very strong and was tugging away and managed to pull something in my shoulder...I believe it is my rotator cuff...of course, in my right shoulder (I am right handed)...so...I've been dealing with some really bad pain in my shoulder...I guess there's always the bad with the good, huh?
I'm so glad to hear Al got out 3 times...how has he been feeling? Hope you are doing well, as well as everyone else here...take care, Mimi

mimi isn't that the way, something good then bad! how is your shoulder doing now? trade you arms, i'm a leftY! i really sliced open my other leg last night have this huge bandage on it, and ofcourse the other one has a tensor bandage on it! i look like a poster child for accidents waiting to happen, just shows that i should have put the gardening stuff away, i'm glad i had a tetnus shot awhile back. how's your mom doing now/ funny how people have to have their pillow, do you think your sister will do it again? sure would be nice! Well it's going to be hot one again today, so i better get going it went up to 94 yesterday1 and see you all though we only got snow! debbie

Hi Rob, Perhaps it was a labor contract or something that required them to service the planes with the snacks. I'll bet that none of the passengers wanted anything to eat at that time. That reminds me of another airline story. About a million years ago, we were a couple of working girls getting along on small salaries. My friend saw an ad for a cheap travel trip to Hawaii, seven days and six nights for a very low sum. We signed up, stayed at a lovely hotel, and had a great time. It was time to leave, and off we went to the airport. The airline had gone out of business with no notice at all! It wasn't TWA, but a fly-by-night (no wonder that term is used) organization. An airport employee contacted other airlines to get us to Los Angeles. United agreed to accommodate us, but there was only one space available. My friend insisted that I take it as my brother was to meet us in LA. She would come on the earliest flight available. I found the hotel where I had agreed to meet my brother, but soon got a phone message from him that a family emergency had come up and he wouldn't be able to meet me until the next afternoon. I sat out by the swimming pool, reading, not at all displeased to have time to spend in such a nice way. A young man came over and asked me if he could share the table with me as it had the only umbrella and the sun was so hot. We had an interesting conversation and he asked me to join him for dinner and dancing at the hotel that evening. The next morning he saw me in the lobby of the hotel. I guess that I must have looked distressed and he asked what the trouble was. I told him that I hadn't heard from my friend and was worried about her. She should have arrived by now. He asked me to come up to his room, and since he didn't seem to be an art connoisseur with etchings in his suitcase, I went with him. He got on the phone, called United Airlines and asked to speak to the president. I was shocked to hear him get right through. My new friend told him about a woman stranded in Hawaii and asked that passage be found for her on the next flight. It worked, she did arrive very soon after. My date from the night before had an executive sounding voice. He was a star of the Ice Capades and had just ended a tour in town; no wonder he was such a great dancer. I am sure not, but he was nice about it. But to compound matters, we still had to get back to our city and our tickets had been issued by the same slock-job outfit that had deserted us in Hawaii. Again the airport folks got us a ride on an available plane. This time it turned out that the air pressure wasn't working. We flew so low that we could see details of the Grand Canyon below us. I don't know why they didn't pull into an intermediate airport, but on we went. The problem was that some people were getting sick. The flight attendant was passing out sandwiches and asking those sane people what kind they wanted. It was very weird and we were so glad to get off that plane. Steve - I didn't give the name of the airline because they have since merged and I didn't want to put a black mark on their reputation. I had flown with them some years earlier to Europe and had a pleasant, uneventful trip at that time.

Don't forget, waffles aren't just for breakfast! Like crepes, waffles are an excellent vehicle for savory meal concoctions. Anything you could stuff inside a vol-au-vent shell, pour over rice, potatoes or pasta or serve on toast (yeah, I grew up eating creamed-whatever on toast!) can be stuffed, poured, or served on a waffle. Waffles actually make a pretty tasty faux Yorkshire pudding with roast beef (all those little squares, just waiting to be filled with gravy) and if you are a fan of crab or tuna melt sandwiches, think about using a waffle! A personal favorite is a warm waffle PB&J. :D

Oh my, reading your experience brought back to mine. It was similar except that I came out in much better physical condition than you. The other driver claimed that he was looking down to reach something and didn't see my car parked on the side of the road with emergency lights flashing. Obviously, his story didn't add up somewhere. The road was in a residential area with 35 mph limit. This was a long stretch road. Even if one was speeding, he would have enough time to see far ahead. He was actually drunk. We could smell his alcohol breath even after smoking a few cigarettes while waiting for the police to arrive. When he hit my minivan, it jumped a 100 ft and landed on the grass area. My minivan was tolled. He hit so hard that the gas tank had a leaked. With him smoking, it was fortunate that my van didn't blow up. It was severe damaged and had broken windows from the back and all the way up to the back of the driver seat. Yes, it stopped right where I was sitting. I only had a tiny tiny scratch on my nose from a flying glass. I too was wearing a seat belt. I was hit so hard that my body was uncontrollably shaken for a good 2 weeks. It felt weird because emotionally, I wasn't shaken up about the accident. I never saw him coming. I truly believed someone was watching me. After seeing photos of the damaged van and the damaged wheelchair, my boss insisted on seeing me in person. He didn't believe that I came out alright. I did the same thing as you did Donna. I was told by the junk yard attendant that she has seen so many Chrysler minivans saving lives. So, I purchased another Chrysler minivan (2002). Hopefully, the newer one was built just as heavy duty as the old one (1996). By the way, congrats on your new car. It's beautiful. You have a wonderful attitude toward the whole accident.

Must be something with the weather...

No, there's no stigma to drugging kids these days, rather it's the fashionable thing to do. But when you consider the parents are probably all popping something or injecting something, they have to keep the kids going too so they don't become traumatized. What's so strange to me is a week or two ago, and before that for months, people were in such a good mood. Even with the cold, the snow, the ice, gridlock, accidents galore, holiday pressures - still smiles, holding doors, greetings and such. That's what was so noticeable to me. I don't know who Dave Ramsey is, I'm guessing another talk show host or something, but what's been so positive of late to me anyway is seeing so many people get their finances in order and prioritize things. After the 8 years of depression and devastation, people finally learned that yes, they can lose their houses and won't be able to afford the 3 SUVs, RV, overpriced house and be taking vacations every two months. I'd see store carts far less full than 5 years ago. More of the necessities and toning down the purchases to less "upscale" brands and the like. Generic and store brands aren't a dirty word or just for the "po' folk" anymore. This attitude of live of the credit card started to finally dissolve. That's good to see. Thought just crossed my mind... Why can't Johnny read? He's passed out in the corner! LOL

My shoulder is actually feeling a bit better, thank goodness...I just don't have time for injuries...lol... Sounds like you've been doing a good job on yourself (legs)...please be careful!!!
Mom is still ok, doesn't seem to be any repercussions from the sleepover...I'm so glad. My sister said she'll definitely do it again...thank God for her. I have two sisters, but one is of no use whatsoever...and she is an RN...how sad, huh? She sees my mom two Sunday afternoons a month. But you know about relatives. I can't believe Al's mom...how on earth can anyone treat their children that way...or should I say ignore them? You know, Debbie, as much as it must hurt Al and you, she is the one that is missing out. At least, that is what I tell myself about my sister. I feel that one day, she will be the one that will be regretting all the time she could have been with mom. Besides, not much we can do about it, is there?
Wow, 94 degrees!!! Sounds like Chicago...seems like we only have two seasons here...winter and summer...goes from cold straight into the high 80's and 90's...can't seem to win...but I'll take the summer any time over winter...maybe because we only get a few months of warm weather.
How is Al feeling? I sure hope he's doing better.
