What an exhausting day!!

Posted by ladyelle (My Page) on

I know I left for awhile, please excuse me.. Mom with her Dr appts.. Me, well I have an online friend that just lost a daughter (16 yo) sadly in a car accident. I don't seem to be able to get over this.. I know I have to for my mom.. My friend is MAJORLY depressed over this..

So far the only way we have been chatting is through emails. I plan on calling her soon, I just have to find the right words.. It's hard not knowing what to say..

As far as mom goes, I had her at the Dr yesterday, the lung Dr. I HATE GOING THERE!!! His office is in a hospital. I get there just fine, it's the GOING HOME, I get so terribly LOST, all the time.. I passed the hospital 3 TIMES, yesterday.. 3 TIMES!! :( :(

I don't know what to do about this anymore.. The only family I have here is my brother and I can't take him away from his job to take her to Dr appoints.. My sis in law went to a wedding, she'll be gone for 2 weeks. I didn't know that 3 months ago when this appoint was made...

Everytime I think I'm going home, I pass the hospital again.. What am I doing wrong????? I have no idea!!! This is the ONLY OFFICE HE HAS!! I am not crazy for this man as it is.. He is a wise a$$ to boot..

I need help... What would you do??

Ladyelle,
Me? I'd find another doctor....you don't need the added stress of getting lost every time you take your mom to the Dr...I am in the medical field...if you'd like, let me know where you are living now (either here or via email) and I can find out for you some names of lung specialists in your area with good reputations. I'm in a burb outside Chicago, but the doc I work with did his residency at U of TX - Southwestern in Dallas....he literally knows hundreds of docs throughout the country...I'd be happy to help you out...be well, Mimi

What you do is get someone that knows the way to drive you once so that you can write down, street names, where to turn, etc. Then, before you leave the hospital, review the directions and follow them. If your mother is doing well under this doctor's care, she needs to stay with him. Sometimes switching doctors is not a good idea.
OR...go to MapQuest.com and print out the directions from the hospital to your house.

Here is a link that might be useful: Map Quest

It might not be easy to get another doctor, but it certainly is something to think about. And PeaBee gave good advice. Get someone to drive you, maps in hand, and you take notes. If you are like me, when I have Mother in the car, I'm not thinking about driving as much as I should, it's like a constant distraction with her chatter.

But print out maps, have someone else drive you, and take notes. I suspect that when you look at the intersections, at some point you are going to have an "AHA" moment and see where you've been taking a wrong turn that leads you in circles.

Good luck----- I know what you mean by being exhausted after taking your Mother to a simple doctor's appointment!

Hi! Well everyone is different, and if it was me, i would probably look for another doctor, but here where i live there are thousands upon thousands of people who do not have a doctor alone in the city i live in alone! PeaBee has a wonderful idea, print out the map quest and take a drive when there are no appointments scheduled bring along a pen and paper too so you can mark down important sites that you can recognize, like turn at gas station, turn at dress shop, i know that i hate going to see one of al's specialists, and i have lived in this city all my life and i still say to him do i turn at this car lot and every time he says no it's 2 blocks more, so it's not you, i think it's just all the stress that we go to when we have to go to the doctor and then when that appointments over it's either relieve or more stress. ps hope you don't mind me reading your members page, but we also have a Shih Tsu and he's also my baby and "lovie" he's 8 and he's brought so much happiness in our family, but dd wants a kitty, don't know if she'll get one for her bd or not, but i think she just might! Freezing cold and 40! here! enjoy your day! debbie

OMG Debby...can't believe it's 40 --- would you believe it's in the mid 90's here today??? And so so humid, really not enjoyable to be out in this kind of weather either.
I guess I need to add one more thought regarding Map Quest...I have used it many, many times, but you really have to be careful...I have gotten quite a few BAD directions from Map Quest...honestly....told me to turn right, when it was really a left...mentioned a street that was non-existent, so Debby's idea is probably better than the Map Quest...the last thing you need is to get wrong directions. Ladyelle did mention she doesn't even like the doctor. If she's located somewhere where there are other choices, I say dump this doc and find another one, but that's just my opinion. Personally, I have no tolerance for doctors with attitudes. Yes they all have HUGE egos, but if you can't talk to them, what's the point?
Oh, and I have a Bichon Frise'...cute as anything, my little Herbie...he's 14 now and unfortunately I believe he's getting doggie dementia, poor little guy...hard of hearing, cataracts and now a little confused, but such a loving creature...and Deb, stay warm!!! Mimi

RE: What an exhausting day!!

What you need to do is figure out exactly what's tripping you up on the way home. Essentially, you should just be able to reverse your steps but if there are some one-way streets that get you there, you obviously can't use those streets to get back. Can you do a test run when you have a bit of time (without your mother) and figure it out? If you're frazzled, stressed, or trying to get home quickly, that only compounds the issue. Don't beat on yourself -- that won't make you figure it out faster. :-)

You have given me wonderful answers.. I never did trust mapquest.. LOL I searched for a Dr they said the street didn't exist, LOL.. There ya go..

I don't know what I'm gonna do.. I think I'm gonna just think about this for a bit, I'll get back to ya.

RE: What an exhausting day!!

Elle: Send me the address, I will check the map and see if I can give you a good set of directions. I know how hard it is from where you live to get to Austin Drs.
They are doing so much road work her way, you never know if it will be open or not.
I told her she just has to relax, but I know that is not easy to do when you are heading home and want to get there quickly.
I have a hard time finding the way to Austin, Drs. from my little town, so I know it is not always easy. Luckily for us our son has a local Dr. and rarely needs to go to a specialist.

Ok Jeannine,
That night my mom said she doesn't want to see him anymore, "what does he do for me anyway??" All he does is dole out pills.. Her primary can do what he does and make the money he does too.. One less Dr for Medicaid and Medare to pay.. Yessh!!
