Son is not happy

Well we did another urine sample, and bingo! big time infection and since the local Dr. can no longer give him the normal anti-biotics, due to the infections resistance, he will be on IV meds. for 10 days. Not happy, but he at least gets to stay home, no hospital for him. We have had this happen twice before, and I know what to do, just it does cut into your spare time.

The home health in our little town, knows us and has his records so they are no strangers to him or his condition.

They do have to do the IV shunt, but I do the changing and etc. of the IV bags. Their concern and ours, is his veins become collapsed after a day or two, so they will be out to change the IV cath. quite a bit.

He had no fever, just "felt" like his bladder was cramping, and we took a sample to the Dr.

His Dr. has just thrown up his hands in regards to these infections, nothing he can prescribe will touch this.

So a busy 10 days coming up. I will still be in touch with you guys, but had to let loose a bit of steam, if you know what I mean.

Jeannine you poor person! i remember (gee i always seem to have these stories don't i? - lol). when al had the iv antibotics at home too, the VON's (or home health care) would come to the house 4 times a day and the final nurse would come at 11:30 at night, and she would stay for 2 hours or so when the bag was finished. al also had terrible veins, each time he goes into the hospital they have to get an icu nurse or operating nurse to come in to put in the shunt. so i know exactly how you feel! but al too didn't want to go to the hospital and is a terrible patient, so on the good side your son gets to stay home with you, and his days will go by faster being at home. let us know how you are feeling and how he's doing! debbie

Jeannine, so sorry about your son. I hope everything goes well and time flies for both of you...Please keep in touch and let us know how everything is going, okay?

And vent away, Honey!! That's what we're here for! Big shoulders! (big everywhere else, too, but that's a whole other story!;-)

Ha! You people are too kind. Dang kid turned 7 yesterday. I'm left wondering where those 7 years went. We all had a good day, and he is left with even more toys that we don't have room for in this house. I think it's time for another giveaway(we never throw the old ones out. I will have to post some pictures as soon as I get time, since they are on a different computer, but my second pumpkin came in at 75 pounds, which I am considering pretty good since I didn't give it ideal growing conditions. The one thing I did use fertilizer wise that I think really boosted the second pumpkin was I used a seaweed based fertilizer that was 4-26-26. I used it weekly as a soil drench and I think that made a big difference. I can't wait to try it again next year under ideal conditions.

Dream.. nice table :>) ! I thought I was going to have a panic attack before the game was over ..lol ! I had to work last night, but there was no way I was going to miss the game,so I ended up with a t.v. in my office. My boss loved that :>) ! Let me tell you what I did a few years ago for the Iron Bowl. DBF and I love to tailgate party at the games in our R.V. I got a bunch of Tide washing powder boxes and arranged them on our picnic table so that they spelled out ROLL TIDE ! Then I put a big glass bowl of soapy water on the table with a stuffed tiger in it and a sign that said "watch the Crimson Tide clean up the Auburn tigers". Thanks Meghane, I know nothing, at all, about crate training. I got lucky with Tibby & Toby.. they are Chows.. trained themselves. I never had to teach them anything having to do with going potty and they neveer even peeded on the bed or furniture or floors, from day one. And I got them when they were 10 days old. They had a particular whimper and squirminess that let us know when they needed to go out to potty. Anyway, my hope is that Dash can get potty trained by using the crate. Do you think it would take very long? If the owners can potty train him, I'm hoping they then would allow the dog onto the house when they are home. Giving Dash some, much needed attention. He could then spend the day in the yard and hopefully the sons would walk him mid day and bring him into the house while they are home. I'm going to tell the owners that Dash has to have some sort of shelter out in the yeard. A dog house? What would be best for a husky? I know Dash will be happier when the cold weather gets here.. I hope we have lots of snow this year! That statement tells ya how batty I am over this dog! I hate snow! But, I really do love Dash. I don't know if the owners will take the time to properly take care of Dash, but like I said, I have to try. I hate to even talk about this, but, Toby is over 13 years old... and well, the day will come, sadly. We already lost my dear, sweet Tibby, just a little over 6 months ago. I miss him terribly! We know that we will have dogs again. And we wanted to get 2 chow pups.. I really love Chows and really wanted puppies. That was the plan, anyway. But, somehow I see a beautiful, blue-eyed, black & white husky in our future! I must be nuts! Even nuttier, if we do take Dash in, we will get a SH rescue as a buddy for Dash! After having 2 dogs with Tibby & Toby we will never have a solo dog, again. It's good for the dogs and double the love for us! I would love to have one of those reddish brown colored huskies.. with beautiful brown eyes. I know you have one of those.. what are they called.. Agouti? (sp?). Tibby & Toby are/were both reddish, Toby is dark red and Tibby was creamy blond with red, both with beautiful brown eyes. Any advice or thoughts on having 2 huskies? What to look for in a husky rescue? This would be expensive from the get go. We only have a 4 foot fence. Luckily, the yard is not very big. OMG! If Dash were to go from that house to ours he will think he has died and gone to heaven. LOL! The whole neighborhood thinks Tibby & Toby are the luckiest and most loved dogs in the whole wide world! Do you think you could show me a link to the proper crate for Dash..and what size. I could use all the help I can get with crate training. Thanks for the help and encouragement, Meghane, Silly

Well got all the supplies from WalGreens Home Health in Austin, at least they deliver. Never saw this type of IV before. Michael said it is the new type, has a balloon inside this small bottle, the balloon pushes the solution into the vein, so no bag hanging from a hook. News to Me!!
So tomorrow AM, the nurse comes out and we go from there.

Hope they can get on it, so he can feel better soon! New things just keep on cropping up...inventions, I mean. It is amazing. Know he is glad to be avoiding the hospital. Good luck to all! Just what you needed for spring, eh! Derry

Not great that he is on IV, but neat that they have come out with something new! i had the old, old IV pole that weighed about 30 lbs, al had brought it home from the college (they have a nursing programme there, and guess where all the nurses go -- to Texas - lol, please don't take it the wrong way, nurses get paid alot more in the states than in canada, i'd go to in a flash), because they were throwing it out, and i had painted it black and hung a flowering basket from it! (poor thing did double duty). al also said to mention to you and he said that you probably already knew this, but he said, the nurses would warm a towel in the microwave (but make sure it isn't in there too long and to watch that it doesn't catch on fire!) and put it on his hand for a bit, it makes it easier to the iv site in. my best for your son! debbie

OMG Jeannine, I had no idea all this was going on there, and with you getting or having company to boot. Or didn't they come? I am so sorry.. Why don't you ever call me?? I always have a shoulder for you to vent to don't you know that??

You had better be resting in between girlfriend!!
