A Financial Tip

| I know, as caregivers, we're also often concerned about the cash flow of our charges--hoping that the money will last long enough to take good care of them.
Don't forget to check the state's unclaimed property lists on their behalf. A lot of older folks don't think to do that for themselves, and there's often something due them that they forgot about. Wish I'd thought to do it sooner--I didn't find out until Mom died that she had some $$$ being held for her. Not a lot in her case, but it would have been nice if she'd have had the pleasure of spending it. Still, I've heard of people who get huge windfalls from the state.
Can't hurt to check! |

| I checked my state's unclaimed fund list and found two useful entries-$500 due my mother when she lived in a different city and $900 due my late aunt, which her three daughters divided. Just in time for last Christmas! |

| After my mother in law died, we found her name. She had $200 coming from an old insurance policy that she probably didn't even know about. After we realized that it would have to be split among seven families, we decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Forms to fill out, copies of death certificate, etc. etc. |
