I hope it flourishes with your new found attention :) After a few years and more orchids in my trash than I wish to admit...I invested in the following: Physan 20, Phyton 27 (which will treat bacterial infection that your plant may have Erwinia or Pseudomonas), Neem oil, 1600 Xclude, Mosquito bits, and lastly Subdue Maxx (the last one is a bit over the top and specifically for black rot Pythium). Physan 20 is basically like bleach which you dilute and clean surfaces with to protect against fungi, algae and bacteria. Phyton 27 is for more serious bacterial infections that are common. Neem oil for the bugs. These are the three I would recommend. If fungus gnats become an issue then the bits help. The 1600Xclude and Subdue are pretty, well, extreme and not necessary in most people's views I read...but I am a bug maniac. Subdue Maxx is specifically for the black rot; the only other way to treat it is to do exactly what you did which is carefully with a sterile blade, dispose of the diseased portion of the plant and pray it doesn't spread any further. I started with about 5 plants myself over 5 years ago...I have about 75 now and building a greenhouse ^.^ Welcome to what will soon be your best love! PS. It is worth saying that the BEST way to avoid disease is to provide the proper culture for the plant...which you have done with your re-potting etc.

Easy to grow. Mine blooms 2x a year. I grow it in bright light, hanging under a tree. Lots of water but mine is in an open basket. You need to adjust watering to your growing conditions and light. You appear to live in Florida. The best deals on orchids is to attend any orchid shows in your area. Odoms brings plants to our (Sarasota) show as well as Venice and Tampa. You should consider joining your local Orchid Society. Its fun and they always sell orchids or raffle them off for almost nothing. Best way to buy orchids is through the Clubs or shows. Jane

This list contains roses that I have found lose fewer than 30% of their leaves over the season over the past 8 years. This list probably has little value to northern growers because very little of what I grow would survive there. Yes, last Friday I met my first assignment. She's been widowed 11 years, and her children don't live here, the closest is about an hour and a half away. She'd like a house-share, and she has a lovely home, but we also started to discuss her kids. One wants her to move into a senior place like where my Mother lived, and another child wants her to move to where he lives, maybe buy somehting like a condo up there. But she says she's not ready for that yet. SHe's a young 83, but very lonely. She's been in her home for 37 years, and she feels surrounded by her memories. She's all too willing to talk, and I had trouble getting out of there on time---I didn't get out nearly on time! But she's a lovely lady, and I think that talking about this will help.
