Fiberglass insulation

Any tips from you insulation experts on how to encourage my R-30 fiberglass batts to "puff up" to full thickness? They don't seem to want to expand; I've been checking on them periodically over the past 12 hours since releasing them from their compressed state in the bag.

Never mind, I had to do what I really didn't want to do: use manual intervention to cause the batts to fluff up. Yet another reason why I'll never use this stuff again.

It's one of the reasons you aren't getting a true r-value with fiberglass batts. They have sprayed in fiberglass now that is quite dense and packed when filled in the cavity. Standard batts aren't meant to be dense, but rather what you are out to acomplish, "fluffed out" but r's are lost w/ the air infiltration throughou the batting.Because of this looseness, it has a tendency to settle in wall cavaties leaving gaps up at the top plates of the wall.
