Building our new home to house us comfortably and safely in our old age is one of our primary goals, and I just read about a cool concept that was new to me:

You can get a special switch for your front porch light, which will make your light FLASH on and off, allowing ambulance or police personnel to find your house fast. It'd also let your neighbors know, "something is wrong here". Apparently some models actually dial 911 for you.

Some models have three positions: on, off, and flash.
Others show the word FLASH in red when the function is activated.

The switches only cost $20-30, though that is JUST for the switch. You'd still have to have it installed, though I suspect that installation wouldn't cost any more than a standard switch installation ... If you were doing it in the grand scheme of a new build (or a renovation).
