1000% YES! It's not ''stain resistant" so much as it has a waterproof casing that doesn't allow moisture to penetrate and soak into the pad. That's the real culprit of pet odors.

Get the NICEST pad you can! Go to the carpet place and have (wife) take off shoes and stand on each carpet pad. I did this and could feel a huge difference between the real nice pad the salesperson thought I should get and the next jump up. This was in a remodel where we made every decision plus did all the work ourselves in 3 months. The house is worth about 180K, but I'll tell you I now notice how mediocre everyone else's carpet (in much pricier homes) is! Mine does have the waterproof casing, but I chose it because of the bounce it had. Picking a carpet pad without standing on them is like buying a mattress online based solely on reviews. LOVE my carpet pad!

Even the cheaper pads at some places are waterproof now a days. I agree with stepping on the pads without shoes. I could feel the difference that way but not with my hands necessarily.

The combination of cat and carpet is really bad. Not to be at my house.
