I don't know about how to change it, but are you thinking about a bi-fold door? We are doing a bi-fold for our master bathroom because I have heard that pocket doors can break down if you are using them in high traffic areas.

I changed one, and it was no big deal. Our master bath door had a hardware failure, and it was a LOT easier to hang a conventional door rather than tear the whole wall apart. Our pocket door had very cheap hardware which was no match for an active young boy.

If you like swinging doors, but don't have the area for a full-sized door, consider this hack:

And convert a bifold (which screams "closet") into a double door (which screams "fancy"). All the perks of a full door, with half the swing. You can also add really easy to use locks on the doors still to make them functional, as well as full-size (dummy) handles for when you are older.

Thanks LogBuildDreams, I will consider that...especially if I could put offset hinges on the door and have them lie flush with the bedroom walls when not in use.

Our builder had a pocket door put in for our master bathroom and we didn't want it so he just left the pocket door in the wall and put in a door. So it's not any harder. He put flat board to cover the span of the wall plus the additional width of the pocket door frame, so the wall looks thicker there, but no one would notice it if they didn't know.
