My mother in law is trying to come up with some Christmas present ideas for us.

For our new home, we are doing vinyl plank flooring through the main areas of the house, tile in bathrooms and laundry, and carpet in bedrooms.

I saw an advertisement for the Bissell Symphony which is a steamer and vacuum in one. Is something like that a good purchase? In my previous homes, I had tile in wet areas and carpet everywhere else. I have a Swiffer Wet Jet for lighting mopping purposes, but it's not all that great to be honest.

The Symphony review are fairly positive, but there are complaints that the steam function doesn't get hot enough to really disinfect like you want it to.
