Slick concrete porches.... what to do?

Posted by stayn2busy (My Page) on

All our covered porches (about 1000 sq ft) were finished smooth instead of broom finished. I am concerned that with the humidity in Arkansas there will be times when they could be very slick. Other than using rugs around the sitting areas, is there a finish that could be applied to roughen up or texturize the porches? I would love to see some pictures of concrete finishes that have been done after concrete was done.

Abocrete epoxy with sand distributed on the surface.

There are a number of manufacturers which make 'non-skid' or 'non-slip' finishes, including those suitable for use on concrete or stone. I've used two different brands with great satisfaction. Do read all the info, some finishes are low gloss, and some are quite highly glossed (even though retaining the non-slip properties), which greatly affects the finished appearance.

Or, as brickeyee says, sand can be spread over freshly applied paint (formulas containing epoxy are usually longer wearing when used on floors).
