Roof venting question

I have a roof venting question. I noticed that the soffits under the eaves of the roof gable have vented soffit trim. I would have expected vented soffits only under the lowest part of the roof, and not going up the entire side of the gable. I don't see vented trim on the gable eaves on other homes.

Is this a big deal, or is this reasonable since there is a rafter separating the eave from the rest of the ventilated attic?

I searched around online and couldn't find anyone talking about it.

The primary purpose of venting is to reduce moisture in an attic and in very hot climates to lower the air temperature a bit. That should not be an issue for an uninsulated boxed rake but apparently some people think it is beneficial.
