Does anyone have any experience with the cost difference between LED, incandescent and fluorescent can lights?

First there are 3 three available sizes

1) 6"
2) 5"
3) 4"

For 6" you pay cost of fixture $15
+ LED: cost of LED ( cree 6" homedepot - $29)
+ incandescent: cost of bulb $2.50 + cost baffle $15
+ CFL: cost of CFL $3 + cost baffle $15

For 5" cost of fixture $20
+ LED: you buy one of those 6" that fits 5" can (I would not buy 5" cans for LED)
+ incandescent: cost of bulb $2.50 + cost baffle $15
+ CFL: cost of CFL $3 + cost baffle $15

For 4" cost of fixture $25
+ LED: cost of 4" LED $45
+ incandescent: cost of bulb $2.50 + cost baffle $15
+ CFL: cost of CFL $3 + cost baffle $15

One of the primary advantages of incandescent recessed light fixtures is the variety of lamps (low voltage MR16, line voltage PAR's, etc.), the option to direct the light toward a wall, at an object, or through a small "pin hole" or "slot" opening and the ability to put enclosed fixtures over wet areas. To ignore these features is to ignore many of the important benefits of these fixtures.

I'd also ask this question over on the lighting forum. Very knowledgeable and reasonably active people.

As incandescent lighting is being phased out, you should think about installing something that you won't have to retrofit almost immediately when you go to occupy the home. Yes, that means more money on your part up front at a time when you are probably counting pennies here. But, putting in incandescent fixtures of any variety would be penny wise and pound foolish for the home.

There is a place for each of these types of lighting. To suggest that it is necessary to choose all one or the other type is silly.
