Jen, if you are in a big hurry or have limited funds for the floor, go to a flooring store and ask to see their solid wood remnants (leftovers from previous jobs.) Somebody told me they bought remnants at a few different stores and then mixed them all up to make their floor. I never saw it but I heard it was gorgeous. I guess you'd have to make sure they were all the same thickness and all connected the same. Probably need not mix smooth and hand scraped either. Just a thought.

I agree, go to a local flooring store and see what's on hand. I read your other thread and your ordeal was unfortunate. Good luck on finishing your project.

Thanks for the replies! You guys are always great. I am actually going to go to a local mill that has select, #2,#3, and cabin. They don't have mill run but maybe I can mix grades to get the character. Will look around for remnants but we need 1700+, not sure if that will work, but it won't hurt to ask.

Try flooring.org ... they have good contacts with mills

If someone hadn't bought 5,000 square feet the same day I ordered my paltry 700 square feet, I would have had 2-week delivery. But they cleaned out the warehouse and the mills were starting to get busy.

Jen, what'd you end up going with?

We ended up ordering local #2 Red oak in 4" for $2.10/sq ft.
