Transoms or not?

Our great room is 16x20 and will have 9 foot ceilings. There will be 4 windows centered in the rear wall that we plan to frame out with large white painted trim. These windows are currently specd to be 3 feet wide by 6 feet tall (all windows on 1st floor are this size). We were going to add 1 foot transoms in the great room so we'd need to set the windows 1 foot above floor and 1 foot from ceiling. But now I'm second guessing if we should instead skip the transoms and do a boxed ceiling? I've been looking at my Houzz inspiration pics and I seem to be more drawn to boxed ceilings than transoms, and with 9 foot ceilings we can't fit both. Since our ceilings are only 9 feet we'd go with the larger size boxes to still keep the ceiling feel higher. Our design style is traditional and we want this room to have a more formal feel, and we plan to have lots of larger white painted trim and paneling. Any thoughts on choosing transoms vs box ceiling??
