Question on exterior vs interior door height

Hi guys

We have 10 to 14 feet ceilings throughout the house. The house is currently framed, awaiting the trusses now. Our interiors door are all framed for 8 feet tall. Our exterior doors are both standard 6'8 doors. We decided to put a transom above the front door to make it appear 8 feet tall. We are having controversy over the slodig glass door that enters the back yard. Again, this is framed for 6'8 door. Do you guys think this door can stay this way? Or do we need a transom? Or an 8 foot slider? Or can we leave it the way it is? The outside of it will be covered by the truss, as its a covered back patio. The inside does have an 8 foot door near it. The windows near this door rise above this sliding glass door, but we don't think it needs to be straight accross, any opinions? Thanks!

It's your house and you can do what you wish! :-)

If it was my house, I'd put a transom over the slider so that all openings have the same head height. If not, I'd see the difference in heights every day and hate overlooking such an obvious part of the design. Just me!

I would make it 8 or put a transom, but I wouldn't leave it at 6'8''

Instead of the current 6'8 planned door, Do you think a transom would basically have the same effect as an 8 foot door?

Didn't your architect detail this in the elevations and window and door schedule?

Consistency in details is to be strived for in order to unify a structure. It's a very basic architectural principle.

Yea she did but we made a change. There was no slider there at the time and then we added it.
