How well is your solid wood front door holding up?

I'm in love with a mahogany 42" x 96" front door. It's going to cost around 4K. I'm wondering how well it's going to hold up. My builder said that craftsman are hesitant to build wood doors wider than 36" b/c of warping. The manufacturer won't warrenty the door b/c it's a flat panel door.

The house faces North. The door is covered with a front porch. We live in the midwest/missouri, so the usual 4 season but nothing dramatic.

Should I switch to a 36" door?

Our house was built in 1910 and still has the original wooden, 40" x 84", front door. It has a large, oval, glass pane in the top half. Protected by a 10' wide porch as well as a screened door, it has not warped. It is painted with oil-based exterior enamel.

Why don't you talk to a few local carpenters and get their opinions?

the front door on our old house was over 80 years old when we replaced it. the wood was still in good shape but the lock had been replaced so many times that area of the door had been compromised and it was no longer possible to fit a proper lock. we're putting a wood door on our new build.
