Liquid vs Sheet Applied Vapor Permeable Air Barrier Membrane

We are considering some of the liquid-applied membranes instead of sheet applied Typar/Tyvec, and wonder if any of you have had experience with these roll or spray on sheathing coatings?

We're building in NY State in an area that gets long and windy winters. Framing is 2x6 construction w/½" ply sheathing; we will be using either open cell spray foam or water-borne cellulose insulation (or perhaps combination), siding will be Hardi or Nichiha. Lots of inside and outside corners will make sheet install a bit difficult.

It seems these coatings are used commercially. Will Hardi or Nichiha accept them? Any idea of difference in cost between Typar and, say, Carlisle Barritech VP?

Thanks for all feedback! --Mark
