Who pays for the port-a-potty on job site?

This may be a stupid question, but who is responsible for paying for the port-a-potty on the job site? Our builder has billed us since July. A friend of ours is building through a different builder, and their builder covers it. Just wanted to know what the norm is.

Your contract should specify.

Ours was a line item in the bid. Either way you will pay for it.

What does your contract say? What does their contract say?

"A friend of ours is building through a different builder, and their builder covers it."

Your friend is still paying it.

Builders do not cover things out of their profit, but either charge them as a line item, or include the expense in other charges that are not itemized.

On a turn key build, the builder pays for it.

There is no "norm" for home building contracts and it does not really matter what other contracts say; for your project this issue is determined by your contract. If it is listed as a reimbursable expense and there is no mark-up, you can't complain.

It doesn't matter.

The owner is ultimately 'paying' for the port-a-potty regardless of who actually writes then sends the check to the port-a-potty company.

A port-a-potty is a cost of doing business for the builder.

The builder always passes on the cost of doing business to the customer.

End of story.

So if your builder is 'billing' you each month for the Job Johnny renatl, you are paying for it...

And if he does not appear to be billing you at all, your are still paying for it because he has it factored into his costs with his bid...

Of course, you might be paying for it twice. It's a good idea to read your contract once a month because each time you will find something new.

"Of course, you might be paying for it twice.."

Yeah.
Right.

Just like when an ignorant owner lets a 'professional' design their home...then pays that same 'professional' the 2nd time when he cons them into a contract to act as their 'construction manager' to make sure the building gets constructed 'right'?

Yeah.
Right.

Hire the wolf to watch the henhouse....

Don't bring your personal problems here, no one is interested.

A few months ago we debated who got to use the port-a- potty!

Here is a link that might be useful: someone just tried to use our port-a-potty!

we paid for ours and it was cleaned every week. ours was about $82 per month so not too bad, we kept it for 5 months and now we have a working toilet finally! it's worth it and make sure you have it when the drywall crew is working out there and specify to make sure they use it. the horror stories are out there about drywallers using the bathtubs and inside of walls to relieve themselves.
