GardenWeb needs your feedback!

Hi everyone,

As you may have noticed, we've been sprucing up the site a bit. Among other things, we've added new ways to upload photos and email notifications of post replies. We are still cleaning out cobwebs and weeding some areas of the site, but we are also working on some bigger projects like a better search engine (yay!) and a mobile app. We'd also like to get some feedback from you. What enhancements or additions would you like to see? What do you love? What do you hate? Think big and small!

We can't promise the moon, but please know that we will read and consider every one of your ideas and suggestions. We appreciate your loyalty and dedication to our site and we know how important your community is to you. Help us make it even better!

Please use this post to offer your feedback. But, as always, you are welcome to contact me directly by clicking on my profile page.

Best regards,

Tamara Amey

The thing that I would like the most is the possibility of editing a post.

Forums that I like and use the most are the Tripadvisor ones (traveling is my other passion). You can keep track of your post in your profile and receive private messages (PM).
A couple of times, I wanted to send a PM to a GW user but it is not always possible because of their account setup. You can do that in Tripadvisor and still keep your email private. PM's are helpful when you do not want to be part of a heated subject.

It would be nice if we could "like" a comment, but I do not mean a facebook "like". I do not like to mix facebook with other sites.

    Seconded!

(Even if it's just for 24 hours.)

PM, decent post editing, ubb, ability to see all posts by user, instead of executing search, embed jpeg, pdf.

    I agree with this.

Another useful one might be ability to stick certain posts to the top of forums. e.g. there are some really useful discussions here like the "things that get forgotten" thread or the neverending stream of discussions about how much xyz costs etc. Even if just a FAQ thread that linked to all of these others was stuck to the top that'd be super helpful.

Get rid of the disrespectful commentary about architects at the top of the Building a Home forum. It is neither funny nor appropriate for a forum where everyone, architects included, volunteer their time and expertise.

Shouldn't be difficult to do, and should take less than a minute to block and delete.

    Thanks.

What I dislike the most! The ridiculous number of pop up ads (that open windows on my computer) as well as the bubble ads that show up if you accidentally mouse over a highlighted word.

I would never want to use a GW app if I thought the possibility might exist that there would be even 1/10th the number of ads coming onto my phone--don't want all those data charges!

I would really like a way to keep track of my own posts (I think a lot of people just start a new one rather than trying to dig out one of their old ones with the same topic)...

A way to organize clippings would be great too. (pin-board style would be fine! I've noticed you have a pinterest now).

Great community with lots of great content.

But seriously, this forum software and interface is Commodore 64 in a world of iMacs. How you keep it from self-immolating deserves applause.

Would love to be able to click and go to the first unread post of a thread instead of having to scroll to the bottom of a thread that is quite long.

    Hi everyone!

You asked and we listened. Today we are very excited to be debuting our newest feature -- post editing! To use this feature, go back to the post you wish to correct and you'll find the link under the 'My Clippings' links on the right side of the page.

I want to give a special shout out to all the testers who tried to break the editing tool. ;) Your feedback was insightful and invaluable. Thank you!

You may have also noticed that we adjusted the login cookie awhile back so that you should not have to login repeatedly.

Stay tuned -- we have more cool things in the works!

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

    Best regards,
    Tamara
