ceiling height for a semi-flushmount fixture in foyer

What is the ceiling clearance requirement for general lighting such as a semi-flush mount fixture in a foyer with 9 foot ceilings? (ie, how low can it hang?) I found a fixture I really love and wondering if it will look appropriate at a standard 9' ceiling height....or if necessary I could box the ceiling up to 10' (or more) for extra clearance.

9 ft ceilings are fine with semi-flush mount fixtures.

I have many of them in this house which has 9 ft ceilings.

thank red lover! The dimensions of the particular fixture I'm interested in is only 10.75" high for the smaller version, and 15-ish inches high for the larger version. I think the smaller version will be ok for my small (8x10) foyer space.

How tall are your friends? You don't want anything they might hit their head on ...so if the bottom of the fixture is at 7 1/2' it's fine....unless they are with the NBA.
