We had a doggie door in the home we built in 1988. We had 2 dachshunds that used it. It was in the laundry room door to the outside. We loved it. The convenience was wonderful.

I have 2 dogs now and I love them. I have wanted another doggie door every since but this house has a much more expensive exterior door and dh would never let me put a hole in it.

Hoping to come to terms with an architect within a few days on our new build and on my list of wants is a laundry room/multipurpose room with an outside door. I will put in a cheap door if I have to (to satisfy dh), so that I can have a doggie door.

Cons: my mom has a doggie door and her cat has brought in a few critters, both alive and dead. So something to think about.

Our laundry room faces the front of the house. We might be able to put in an extra door in the dining room that would be a cheapie.

My daughter was robbed... and they gained access into the house through the doggy door.

We are incorporating a doggy door into our laundry room, which faces the back of the house. That section outside the laundry room will be fenced in.
