Our columns were built out of wood then boxed in with a thick plastic board so they are waterproof...they will be painted.

That looks great. The orinal plan calls for the whole beam to be boxed similar to the top portion of your column and painted to match the underhangs. I would consider doing something similar to your picture with our matching brick on the bottom but I am unsure of how that would look on my home. I am also concerned with too many mixed materials in one spot since the left most column is just to the right of the stone bump out. From straight on it may look weird? Thanks.

You could skip stone or brick on the bottom and just do a column...I am sure some of the designers will comment.

I know this is a post about columns but I have to ask what type/color brick is that? I'm having trouble getting brick from the same supplier as my stones for my wall. We have two brick yards and I have really settled on a brick the main yard doesn't stock. It is a Highland Grey. Your brick looks similar and I really like it.

I think something like the above photo, but with the stone on the base to match your bump-out would look great. I would paint the posts to match your trim. I think it would bring a more cohesive look to the entire facade and make the bump-out less random.

We used azek trim on our house with square columns down to the ground.

what specific material/supplier is the plastic you used to cover the columns? (the white portion) and where did you get it?
