The outlets near the range are likely the first in two circuits of outlets above the counter tops. Try pressing the test button on the gfci and see if the other outlets turn off. If so, they are protected through the gfci. I think that arrangement meets code. I'm not an electrician.

While not identical, the GFCI outlets are not near the sink in my kitchen, but are part of the circuit for the outlets near the sink.

3 or 4 outlets are connected to each circuit and GFCI.

If the other outlets are downstream of the GFI's they are protected by the GFI. As was suggested, test it out and if they don't work, it's fine.

Definitely test the GFCI and see if it shuts off all power to the outlets.

In our former home, We had a bathroom wall that backed up to the front porch wall.

Once during a storm, the bathroom outlets tripped. I looked for the GFCI reset button. There was not one in the bathroom. After hours of frustration, I realized it was on a circuit with the front porch GFCI outlet.

So every time the bathroom outlet tripped, I would have to go outside to reset the GFCI.

When we sold the house, the inspector stated we had no GFCI protection in the bathroom. I showed him the set up. It passed inspection.

At least your GFCI is in the same room! LOL

Yes, gfci outlets that can feed regular outlets and given the cost of a gfi receptacle its not a bad idea as long as its practical to the homeowner (not like the previous post who had bathroom and porch linked. I noticed the other day that they now have a gfci that emits an audible alarm when tripped that help avoid this situation.

FWIW, NEC also requires the receptacle on the island to be GFCI protected.
