What type of brick for traditional red brick home?

We are building a new home that we want to look inspired by an older home. It won't be exactly true to an older home because we did want a more more modern floorplan so had to make some concessions. We know we want a solid red brick (i.e. single shade of red, with no black or white mixed in) - and not too orange or too burgandy. We haven't gone to the local brick yards yet but our builder suggested looking for a home that has the brick we want and then they track down that brick. Problem is that we haven't found a ton of examples of just solid red bricks. When I look at the brickyard websites there are all different types of bricks too. Fine sand with indentions, smooth brick, smooth brick with course sand, wire cut, course matte, etc. Is there a particular type of brick that we should look into that would help us achieve our new old house look?
