If the sun is directly hitting the roof, yes, it will be blinding to look at it.

Is it an uncommon material to use on low roofs? I never have seen problematic glare mentioned, so the idea didn't occur to me until after we ordered.

We have galvalume. I notice a bright glare in the middle of the day from far off as I am driving up from the main road. Up close, I don't notice it as much. From the second floor, looking down on the roof of the carport below, I have never been so blinded by it that I can't look at it. Just my experience so far. I think you'll like it, or at least I do.

Lots of materials may give a bright glare when the sun hits them at a certain angle for a few minutes--metal roofs, glass windows, car bumpers, etc. But the sun never stays in one spot--it's constantly moving.

If you see a bright spot for a few minutes, just don't look at it. It will be gone before you know it!

Not sure if it is Galvalume, but my parents had a silver-white roof on a sun-porch. It looked a little silly from the upstairs windows, but I never noticed a glare problem. In fact, my Mom said she liked it because it made the rooms above the porch brighter.

In my previous occupation I built commercial buildings and installed several miles of galvanized roofing material. You don't notice the glare so much up close but when the sun and person viewing are at a certain angle there can be a significant glare from a distance
