architect time?

Hi all, this is my first post here although I've been reading for a while. Everyone is so helpful. I am hoping someone can chime in for our situation. We are building a house - the builder has purchased the lot and already has the floor plan that he is going to put on it. It is our dream home literally, and we can't believe it's actually going to be ours one day! Technically, it is a spec home but the builder is letting us make some changes to customize it somewhat. And that is where my question comes in. We are deleting a half wall that separates the kitchen from the family room. We are also adding a pool bath at the back of the house, which will be behind a mud room. I have heard that architects do not move fast but the wait is killing me! The architect just got our plans this week - from your experience, how long would it take to make the couple of changes that I mentioned? I am really hoping they will pour the slab by the end of the month but I don't know if that is realistic.

Thanks!
