Siding: LP Smartside, James Hardie, or something else?

Hello all - Has anyone used LP Smartside or James Hardie siding? Would you recommend either, or something else entirely? Our contractor is recommending LP Smartside, but I've read mixed reviews about it. I want something that looks great and is durable. We live in Minnesota if that matters.

Thanks so much!

We went with certainteed vinyl siding and love it...though it was expensive....Cedar Impressions. We were looking for lowest maintenance.

We're also going with Certainteed cement siding. From what we understand though is that while these have great longevity & written warranty, you MUST get it installed properly or else the warranty is very difficult to take advantage of.

We also have Certainteed -- Cedar Impressions. As Annie said, it wasn't cheap. Love it! We were also looking for low maintenance since we are seniors.

Thanks everyone! I'll have to look into Certainteed - it sounds great!

jessrae,

Thank you for asking your question.

LP SmartSide siding comes with a 5-year, 100% labor and replacement feature and a 50-year prorated limited warranty -- one of the leading warranties in the industry.

Important for Minn., it stands up to hail and the daily freeze-thaw cycle. It incorporates zinc borate to help protect against the rot cycle and termite damage, and comes in many different siding styles and profiles. Easy maintenance too.

Best wishes to you with your home. Patrick
