I personally love it. It is similar to a favorite of mine from Houzz.

If the garage makes sense for you there, go for it. Ours will be the same layout because it works for us. We too have a sloping lot and the view is beautiful and the priority.

Love the look but not the flashing details. Hire an expert or be prepared for water (and air) intrusion.

Yes! I think it is very appealing.

Is there living space above the garage? If it were mine, I would want to try to break up the massing of the garage so that it does not seem so large. Our garage is similarly situated, we ended up putting the third car elsewhere and got help from folks here on the roof design. Good luck.

Are you in a cooler environment and hoping for some passive solar heating? I am asking because I don't see much in the way of roof overhangs to block hot, summer sun.

sorry to bump - was hoping to get some more input re: the flashing. we hired an architect and he doesn't seem concerned. what should i be asking? where are the issues on this roof line?

dekeoboe-- we are in a fairly temperate climate so i am not too concerned about heat from the sun. also the back of the house with the most windows faces east so we will get morning sun but not much in the mid afternoon onwards.

A roof design purist would say that a simple gable with no penetrations or transitions is the least risky roof. The more you differ from that reasoning the more you roll the dice.

The trickiest areas by far are the inset dormers. Yes they look nice but I can practically guarantee they will introduce problems down the road.
